Springer Activated; Washington Optioned, per Post-Dispatch

Here's the link:

From Joe Strauss

Very interesting note about the Phillies (and others) watching Reyes as well as the Braves/Thompson...

I think moving Washington in the meantime was the right move; great story, and hope this isn't the end for Uncle Rico.

Thus the Reyes/Thompson dilemma is delayed another few days, while we hopefully watch Brendan Ryan force his way onto the big club...

Anyone else think a Thompson trade is looking like the highest likelihood at this moment in time?

So, looking at it, ...

what do we know about Brent Lillibridge as a SS prospect for the Braves? Are the Braves high on this guy?

(BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, RFg)
Career (.279/.361/.433/.794/4.53)
2007 AAA (.287/.331/.436/.767/4.09*)

His RFg last year was significantly lower than almost any other point. Is this an option for Thompson? Is that better than Ryan?

Interesting

“The Philadelphia Phillies have longstanding interest in Reyes as a starter, and the Atlanta Braves are among a smaller number with interest in Brad Thompson. ” Staus implies that there are several teams interested in Reyes and a “smaller number” interested in Thompson. Who are the other teams?

The Phillies have supposedly wanted Reyes for a long time.

Mr. Reyes would have to do some careful navigating in their home park, but they like strike out pitchers, and I think they would just unleash him…..don’t know about right now, but the Indians, Braves, Padres, and Detroit have all been interested in him in the past. Detroit even drafted him once…...

The only other team I have heard wanted Brad Thompson was the Pirates. But he’d be a good fit for Cleveland, Houston, Rockies, and the Braves.

She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.

Jill

do any of those teams have a(n) player(s) that you would be interested. Either as two seperate trades or a Reyes/Thompson combo? I know how you feel about Reyes, but is there a deal you would be interested in? Personally I am coming around on Reyes and with the doubts about Mulder etc. I am thinking keeping him maybe the best thing. Thompson I would have no problem trading, but is there some one you feel is worth givining up Reyes for? With in reason of course.

That's an interesting question.

A player I would love for this team, and he could be a semi-long term solution at SS would be the Padres Khalil Greene. It would take a whole bunch more than Reyes and Thompson and that’s if the Padres would even consider moving him-which they won’t unless there’s a contract situation they just can’t handle. Andy LaRoche-I’d do that deal. Or if they wanted to go straight up for the Cubs Sean Marshall because he’s a lefty, he’s young enough to still work out, and he’s had some of the same struggles working through ML hitters-oh, and he’s having some success in their bullpen this year too.

What I hope is that they don’t trade him, stop trying to mold him into something he isn’t, and just try to get him to be the best he can be. He has obviously worked hard to get back what he had-and I still get the sense they don’t think it’s good enough. That, to me, is not a recipe for success.

I hope our field management would look around the league because there are plenty of examples of young pitchers who struggled last year doing fairly well-guys like Danks, Floyd, Jackson, Grienke. You learn from success; but if your smart, you learn even more from failure. Too bad for him he’s stuck here, because they just can’t seem to look at him and see what he can do. They see him in terms of what he can’t do. It’s so ass backwards, I don’t even want to think about it. It makes me head hurt.

See, I tried to have a calm and reasoned answer and I still go off and rant. I just can’t help myself….......maybe this feels too much like my own situation with a boss who didn’t really want me around-it’s hell to go through, but I outlasted my old boss, and my new one is happy with me-and when he’s not, he doesn’t tell the whole world about either…....

She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.

LaRoche

Has interested me for a while now. Brandon Wood is some one I would like as well. As mentioned in my question I am coming around on Reyes, and maybe we should hold on to him. When May 15th comes around we will have a better idea of what Mulder can and can’t do. Who knows maybe at that time Mark is the one that gets traded.
