| Wainwright | Villanueva |
| 2-1, 2.78 | 1-2, 6.19 |
through three starts this year, wainwright has gone to 3-ball counts on only 12 batters --- half of them in the last 3 innings of his most recent start vs these same brewers. he threw 115 pitches in that game, a figure he's topped only twice in his career.

Disagree
With the players TLR has in the starting lineup, Waino should be batting 6th, maybe even 5th.
I think if he ever completely loses his command, we could probably convert him into an outfielder, what do you think?

I was still for the albert slide, but towles was in front of the plate and didn’t have the ball yet he was going to have the ball in a split second, but albert cleared him out before he got it in his hands. But that play was a little more different than pujols slide, both play were awesome though.

word,
havent seen the iz2 apologist on here lately, guess he waiting til his BA gets over .200 to write how we all are not high enough on him. least he has been playing decent defense
No Iz2 apologist, but...
As long as he’s taking walks, he’s at least giving some value to this team. His defense is pretty steady and he gets to balls that Eckstein never would have. He’s rarely a threat for extra bases, so there’s really no reason he should be a free swinger. He has taken his walks so far this season, and because of that, his OBP (entering tonight’s game) is sitting at .344, which is excellent out of the 9-hole. As I mentioned, since his XBH are so rare, his BA is of no consequence in regards to his OBP.
Cardinal fan in the heart of Braves country
Track 'em Tigers - An SB Nation Blog for Auburn Tigers fans
I guess if he can get on base for the front of the lineup it isn't the worst
but I would like to see him get some doubles to make it easier to move him over
by from First to Third on Apr 21, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Well if he doesnt start hitting
no one will walk him, and his OBP will head down to his career norms. At which point he will be useless with Ryan around.
if he can take walks
and hit .250, that is true. but he isn’t hitting well enough for the “taking walks” caveat to take effect. he’s also not really taking that many walks any more; his OBA is only .227 in the last 7 games, 2 walks in his last 24 PA or so.
And I awoke in California, far far from Spancilhill...
well,
that was an exciting half-inning

Not playing Ludwick against righties
is a gisgrace to baseball managing.
The guy kills righties whenever he has extended playing time his whole career. This year he is not just killing righties, he’s KILLING righties.
Pathetic. No way justify leaving him on the bench. No way.

wow
just read through the thread. you’d think we’re down by 5 from the tone in here. Is the game really that terrible to watch?
It's not that bad
Just a few discouraging things.
The most notable thing is that, in the first inning one of the brewers hitters hit a towering shot to lf, duncan caught it at the warning track, only he completely fell over on his back and rolled over, for almost no reason.
"You say the world has lost it's love. I say embrace what it's made of" - Dar Williams
For one thing
It sucked giving up the lead right after we got it.
Also, Villanueva walked 4 in the first 3 innings, and all of a sudden we’ve lost any and all plate discipline.
I’m enjoying the game, would like to be ahead by about ten, but hey it beats homework!

plate discipline?
They are swing at good pitches to hit. A few of them have been line drives. The only bad pitch swung at was Pujols’ piych.
I've been happy about anything good we can do this year
thats why I get so mad when we make dumb moves or beat ourselves, wins will be hard to come by this year I think, and when we do things like that it’s frustrating. Its just funny to see all the people who got over-hyped when we started off amazingly
by from First to Third on Apr 21, 2008 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions
I can understand that. I’m just the eternal optomist that is happy with whatever we can do. And I don’t expect this team to be near perfect. I see the club finishing the year with a slightly overall upward trend in their level of play. with several deep valley’s and high peaks in between. After all that seems to be the way cardinals baseball has been played for several years.

i love how Waino battles
that’s what defines a great pitcher. doesn’t have his best stuff but still manages to get late into a game.
6-7-8-9-1 is killing us tonight
Dunc is 1 for 3
Pujols is 1 for 2 with a BB
Ankiel is 0 for 1 with 2 BB’s
Glaus is 1 for 2 with a BB
Pretty encouraging, if we could just get the rest of the lineup in gear tonight!
Cardinal fan in the heart of Braves country
Track 'em Tigers - An SB Nation Blog for Auburn Tigers fans
I dunno...
I think part of the issue is that other than Pujols, everyone on the team is a streaky hitter. With a lot of guys it’s either 2 for 4/5 or 0 for 4/5.
Bench Skippy, start Ludwick
And its going to lead to lots of LOB
2-5 put them on, 6-1 leave em there.

You do know

come on and win cards!
i take your signatures and use them as away messages
I'm second-guessing again
which is bad, but with the tying run on third and one out, and a guy like Hall on deck who hits a lot of ground balls, why didn’t we walk Hart to get to Hall in the first place, setting up the DP?
And I awoke in California, far far from Spancilhill...
We get Turnbow if the game is tied?
Come on guys, hold it

Wow negative nancy
I think that was played perfectly. I’d have called for Iz2 to bunt in that situation every time.
by cloistermaximus on Apr 21, 2008 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions
I think it is a wrong move
to bunt a man from second to third just about every time. and I am “mr optimistic”
I disagree
Tie game, speed on second, no outs. But him over to 3rd, then he can score on a sac fly, wild pitch, well placed groundout. Any time you can score a run without the benefit of a hit, you should.

Thank God for Derrick Turnbow
The Brewers need to DFA him ASAP if they want to win this division.
Of course, then we probably pick him up and make him a starter.

I love this team
they really don’t ever seem to give up. They’ll fall back to earth, but if they keep on fighting like this, I’ll be happy with them.

How'd you like to be Ned Yost?
You’ve got Ted Simmons (your likely replacement) in the dugout with you and in a tie game, you have the choice of Turnblow or Gagne on his 6th straight day.

Pujols 4-5
He has only made one out in 5 ab. Unbelievable

It’s been a while, let’s see what you can do.
"...but If I can do some damage and help my team win, I'm going to stay in there" -Albert
if you follow power hitters closely
they will almost always look like that. 20-30 AB’s (5-6 games) without a HR, then 2 HR’s in 1-2 games. lather, rinse, repeat; that’s why Adam Dunn gets booed 4 days out of 5 in Cincinnati.
2 BB’s tonight are a good sign.
