Peter Gammons givin some love..
Didn't have time but yetsetrday on the Mike T. show Gammons was on doing team reviews etc. He said in spring that he watched the birds 2-3 times and said this is a very very poor team...In the first few weeks he said he's changed his mind. They still arent going to win the Central(in is opinion) but are much better than he thought, and would be the first to admit he was wrong. St louis is one of the few "pure" baseball towns in america. Great place to play.
Said Duncan makes pitchers "believe" and would never tell him his pitchers are bad because Duncan would give him his mind and has before.
There are a few good stories this year. Hamilton and Ankiel. Noone in the history of the game has attempted to do what he has done.
Said that Ankiel brings inspiration to the team that the others want to do it for him. His is a "phenomanal" person and th eball club loves him.
It was a great 2-3 min blurp all giving the team some love...

Gammons
might be the only guy at ESPN that actually follows and reports on other teams in baseball other than the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets.
Although he is a Red Sox homer through and through he at least he gives props to teams like the Cards when they deserve it.
Gammons has always had great things to say about Cardinal fans and the team’s rich tradition.

actually Buster was on
and adimted to solve a debate a week or so ago between Michell T and forget the other guy(eric asilias?) I posted it on viva though…Buster admited the bias and mentioned good stories that get passed up like the turn around of the indians of last yr etc…He said its a money issue to. Those teams spend…if other teams were to go and spend on big names theyd get a little more coverage…
They also debated that other regions base there coverage on what NY and Bostons papers say..which this was highly debated as well
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2

Gammons is
actually a member of the east coast/espn establishment that gives nods to teams outside of large markets. I’ve always loved his work. To think we almost lost him to a stroke!

Gammons gets it
He’s an old schooler who has experienced so much in covering baseball, and nearly defining the modern “sports opinion columnist” role that so many other hacks have tried to fill. To him, the job is simple – spend countless hours making observations, weigh them against what you know and what you think. Then deliver judgement. His observations that the Cardinals could or would be one of the worst teams in the NL in early Spring were pretty well justified, given the amount of chaos going on. In fact, there were more than a few similar opinions expressed here at that time.
However, and here is what separates him from the pack, he does not set his pride and reputation against his original opinion, or his original observations, come hell or high water. He continues to watch and weigh new evidence. He doesn’t have to admit that he was “Wrong,” because it isn’t his job to be “Right.” It is simply his job to deliver a reasoned, cultured opinion when asked. And his opinions appear dead-on more often than not because he is such a keen observer, and because he is so open to change.
If the Cards go down the tubes in August, and Gammons comes on and narrates his views on the matter, he’ll likely catch flack on this board and others in Cardinal Nation. But more than likely, his take will have more than a few grains of truth in them, then as now.
