Game 12 overflow thread

5-2 giants through 7 and a half . . . . . . looks like tony left wellemeyer in there a few batters too long. another good outing by the kid though; i'm starting to believe.

what a load of crap

for Welly....changing that drop to a hit is a killer

by gossard56 on Apr 12, 2008 6:06 PM EDT   0 recs

It's a defensible move

That catch would have been a web gem if Skip had made it.

It was frustrating

But now LB has graced us with an overflow threat upon which we can chronicle the forthcoming Redbird Rally

the shadow knows

I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2

by punchinjudy on Apr 12, 2008 6:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I regret nothing

I still hate first pitch swinging, as a rule. Of course, good hitters only swing at the first pitch if it's too good to pass up. So we're back to nowhere.

by Midwestside on Apr 12, 2008 6:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My point a while ago was...

not swinging at the first pitch, in general. I was talking specifically about swinging at the first pitch of a new reliever that just came in to the game. The odds are that he hasn't settled in, yet. I think you do him a favor by swinging. Interesting data, on the whole.

by etp_stl on Apr 12, 2008 6:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

it depends on a lot of factors

including the pitcher, the game situation, etc etc. in an RBI spot like that, i think you go up there looking for a pitch in a certain zone. if you get the pitch you're looking for, why take it and fall behind in the count 0-1? don't you help the pitcher that way?

by lboros on Apr 12, 2008 6:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

ok rick here is the plan

get a hit or hit a home run. got it?

THIS IS BECAUSE OF MY SACRIFICE

it was 1-0 when I tuned in on mlb.tv (i'm in nyc). it immediately went to 5-0. i turned off mlb.tv. now we're doing better.

i think cards fans were not intended to see this game, and i am willing to sacrifice watching it if it means the baseball gods let the team win today. so far, so good boys!

They're already in serious contention with 2001 and 2004 for my favorite Cards teams ever-after 12 games. I CANNOT wait until Rasmus is up and everyone is healthy and I'm back in the US to enjoy games.

off topic but...

I assume you're in France from your screenname? I'm in Ireland right now, and as much as I love it, I also can't wait to get back to the States to watch some baseball. Haven't watched a game since August...and as I'm writing this, Ludwick just hit his home run...oh yeah!

Wellemeyer is off the hook. Now how do you think Matt Cain is feeling about now? He pitched a heck of a game. I guess he's used to it by now.
