Strat-O-Matic or Statis-Pro Baseball?

In his posts, I've seen lboros make mention of Strat-O-Matic baseball a few times, and it made me remember my days of playing Statis-Pro baseball, made by Avalon Hill.  I never played Strat-O-Matic, but I spent HOURS playing Ststis Pro.  They even gave you directions on how to calculate ratings for players so you could make your own cards or teams.  We recreated our little league team (we finished 3rd in the AL West), I got a baseball encyclopedia for my birthday one year and we recreated the entire 1967 AL and did the pennant race (Twins won in a walk), and we made cards of players that had remarkable years, like Ruth's 60 home runs (HR range was a mind boggling 27-41), and Gibson's 1968 season..PB 2-9. hit range 11-14., K range 17-34, about as automatic a win as there was.  In the days before the Internet, this kept us occupied for entire Minnesota winters.

Thanks for the fond memories, lboros, but are there any other Statis-Pro fans out there, or were we a Strat-O-Matic nation, and me and my friends were the oddballs?

And did anyone that play both be willing to give their vote on the better game?

I'm a Statis-Pro grad as well

I replayed all the Cardinal games from 1980 (162 games is a lot of games for a 13 year old in a summer). I had broken my leg in the first Babe Ruth game of the year so I had a lot of time on my hands.

I created cards last year for the World Champion Cards and the Cubs from the same year so they had someone to play. The old magic was not there however, but I have great memories.

Yeah, the magic died for me as well...

I ran across the game out of the blue in my early 20's while I was shopping, and picked it up on a whim. It just wasn't the same. But like you said, a lot of great memories.

"Is this Heaven?"
"No, it;s Iowa."
"I could've sworn it was Heaven."

I had a 1980 game that we wore out

My brothers-in-law were teenagers at the time and were hooked on Strat-o-matic, but I alway thought it was a little too simplistic. Gotta love those Z cards.

Those Pilgrims ain't lookin' so proud now...

Statis-Pro

I played that back in the day as well. If I had more time, or maybe when my son gets older, I’d love to get back into that kind of game.
