Game 1 Open Thread: April 1, 2008

Colorado @ St. Louis

Wells Lohse
7-17, 5.70 9-12, 4.62

well, let's give this another try . . . . . . april has been kyle lohse's worst month, historically ---- career era of 5.58 in this month. he's 1-1 in 3 career starts vs the rockies with a 3.50 era (not counting his unfortunate playoff appearance vs them last year). busch iii suits him well --- only 1 hr allowed here in 21.1 career innings, with a 1-1 record / 2.95 era. of course, it could simply be that he did well against the feeble st louis offenses he encountered at this ballpark . . . . . .

There are only 2 outcomes tonight

we win 9-8 vs Wells or we lose 6-1 vs Wells on a 3 hitter.

What's it gonna be?

seriously

I'm more than a little afraid we're going to see the unhittable Kip Wells. I'm a pessimist though, so 6 runs in 4 innings is probably more likely.

Leach says rotation will stay the same

They will stick with the original rotation, with Looper pitching Friday and Wainwright coming back on full rest on Saturday.

Anyone have any news on Mulder? We got an update on Pineiro but wasn't Mulder supposed to start facing minor league hitters soon?

I'm counting two players in our starting lineup

that I'd guess end the year with an OBP > .350 (Pujols, Glaus) and Duncan probably has a reasonable shot as well. That's really sad.

The amazing part of that play was the ball hit off the side of the mound slightly re-directing the path and Tulo was still all over it.

LaRussa gameplan

LaRussa doesn't like to steal with a LHB up because it closes that hole open on the right side of the infield with a runner on. However, then you get situations like that.

Skippy last year

I could be wrong but it seemed like last year he was always swinging at the first pitch. I've always been told that the 1st pitch you see is often the best you'll get but he wasn't always swinging at good pitches.

It seems like he's really worked on that aspect of the game and that's great considering he's batting leadoff this season.

Start Skippy!

That's what I thought

the wind must be blowing in nicely, too.

Has Kyle Lohse always had the philosophy of 'just flip it up there early and make them hit it'? Cause he's throwing alot of 'hit me' pitches.

MLB.TV

If anyone can't understand why their MLB.TV feed seems so choppy, I would advise uninstalling that new Microsoft Silverlight application and use the old player. I'm using the 800K feed, and last year's player runs 100% smoothly. I felt like I was watching The Blair Witch Project on the new one...

Silverlight

Sucks pretty hard. The video was all choppy.. I uninstalled it, went back to windows media player, and now everything is good again. I would recommend against installing it.

About time. I thought Kip was going to throw a no-no

On a mac

But watching it under VMware Fusion running Windows XP64.. Windows Media Player doesn't work for the Mac since Microsft stopped updating it about 6 years ago

by cloistermaximus on Apr 1, 2008 8:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ok. I've heard Silverlight is the best way to get mlb.tv to work on a mac.

"Baseball is like church. Many attend, but few understand." - Wes Westrum

by IrishDomer08 on Apr 1, 2008 9:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The only way, really

To natively watch it.. Flip4Mac stopped working again. I pretty much only have VMWare Fusion and XP just to watch baseball. Pretty sad that MLB.com doesn't give much support for Mac users.

by cloistermaximus on Apr 1, 2008 9:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I missed...

the first three innings, uninstalled silverlight and am now the proud watcher of a Cardinals game!

by Woodwork on Apr 1, 2008 9:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So you get a good solid picture using WMP through Fusion? Better than Silverlight natively on a Mac?

I'm debating on which route to take. I'm interested in first hand knowledge. Thanks
