Speizio signed minor league deal with Braves

How does this make sense? Is he in less trouble than we assumed? I agree that he needed to be released, but I pretty much assumed that the decision was a "of-course-we-release-him" move.

for his sake
I hope he's gotten the help he needs. regardless, I'm not surprised other teams are interested in his services. he's a fairly useful player, or at least has the reputation of one.
no way he could have stayed with the Cards, though...

It is a good deal for Atlanta really
It is a minor league deal, so unless he makes it up he won't make much money from them. Even if he does come up he won't make much since he probably signed for league minimum since the Cards are paying him already. It allows the Braves to ride the storm and possibly use him later if everything blows over. For the Cards it was time to wash their hands of it, but for the Braves it makes good sense actually.

Good for him.
I hope he does well and gets his affairs in order. It was time for him and the Cardinals to move on though.

I wish him well also,
as I would anyone who is battling an addiction, but the Braves need to be careful here...the Cardinals released him, what, just over a month ago? That's not a whole lot of time to get your life back in order.

Such is the nature of these things
The team that cuts him has to, lest they appear to be okay with drunk driving and such. The team that signs him is "giving him a second chance," so they look like the good guys. Shrug.
