The new site...
is pretty, and I like it now that it has an option for wide screens, but it sure sucks up resources more than the old one. I've already had it lock up once
I asked this at the bottom of the other thread
What exactly is the rainout rule before the 5th? Is everything before the rainout null and void? I remember they changed the rule either last year or the year before, and it's got me all sorts of confused.

Looks like it will last a while
I think they'll get this game in but by the looks of the radar it looks like it will be about an hour and a half before they start again.
Well the good news is...
That will be about the time im just getting home. Though we may walk down to a bar first.
Is it the server
or the number of posts that locked up the thread?

I have a feeling it might be the server
but this will be the experiment that proves or disproves that theory.

If my memory is right...
...the home team gets to make the call and you have to figure they'll make sure they get through 5 and a half, right?
that is what i remember too.

Yes, besides being a diehard Fins fan, I'm also a diehard Cardinals fan. (Also a Nets fan, but we'll keep that one quiet as they struggle to even make the playoffs in the terrible East).
Ironically, it was me stumbling across Viva back in '05 that made me aware of SB Nation. But I never posted until the '06 playoff run, kind of as a stress relief during the games. Then I saw the kind of community that was here and inspired me to contact SBN and see if they would give me a shot at running a Dolphins site.
And for some reason, they liked me. lol Go figure!

Cubs and Brewers are both throwin up bagels...top 9th = knotted up at 0. Good game to watch to pass the time.
I was hoping that game would be rained out today
so that, should the Pirates lose tonight and we hold this lead...we'd be alone in 1st place for atleast 1 day.

Okay
Is there any word on the rain delay? Are they calling the game?
"Jimmy told me, 'If you keep it right there at two runs and no more, we'll win this game,'" Wainwright said. "'Me and Albert will get the job done."
I just checked the radar...
..and it looks pretty bad...
just a thick orange and yellow band the entire length of the radar sweep with St. Louis right in the exact center....
But
Have they said anything either way?
"Jimmy told me, 'If you keep it right there at two runs and no more, we'll win this game,'" Wainwright said. "'Me and Albert will get the job done."
They'll wait at least 3 hours, I'd imagine..
..from the start of the delay, which was around, what, 5:20 (EDT) or so?
So I'd give it another 1-1/2 hours....
for those with problems with mlb.tv
you may need to upload the microsoft silverlight upgrade. that worked for me.
I have it...
I got silverlight a while ago. It must've been servers. I was able to listen to the pregame, but once the game came on I would only get "connection reset" errors, couldn't even get gameday. but it's all back now, so i'll just have to catch up with the archive.

2 rbi for Yadier....gone
HR for Albert... gone
2 walks for Glaus...
base hit for Izturis...gone
3 ip, 1 run for Wainwright...gone...
But
If it's postponed, we pick up where we left off tomorrow night, right? Everybody's stats still intact?

Really?
Why not? I thought it did.
"Jimmy told me, 'If you keep it right there at two runs and no more, we'll win this game,'" Wainwright said. "'Me and Albert will get the job done."
That is only for special circumstances...
like when the away team takes a lead at the top of the inning but they never finish the bottom so the home team didn't get a chance to answer it.
that is a bad rule
Can anyone explain why the game situation should reset? THat just doesn't make sense to me. IMHO postponed games should pick up right where the game left off, regardless of whether they reached "Regulation length" or not.
Well the girls would turn the color of the avocado when he'd drive down the street in his El Dorado
Nevertheless...
...that's been the rule since forever. If the trailing team doesn't complete 5 innings at bat, it's no game and you start over from scratch.

I wouldn't just to that conclusion
A pissed off Wells might have one of his "special" days.
After all the "revenge" losses
we had last year, I would hope that we can get a "revenge" win against Baron von Kipperinton for last years SEVENTEEN losses.
"There is one word in America that says it all, and that one word is, 'You never know.'" Joaquin Andujar
wait a minute
One of Wells "special days" What the hell does that mean? He goes one scoreless inning, Hurdle knows a miracle when he sees it and pulls him?
Seriously, all they have to do is wait for that fastball down the middle the baron throws all the damn time.
Back from the game
Waited it out til the announcement -- worst part is that I might not be able to go tomorrow night for the make-up game. Oh well, that first inning rally sure was nice.
Hopefully MLBtv will get it figured out
Urg. Bad day all around, and there is a blizzard outside to make things worse
Brace yerselves, folks!
I expect a schizophrenic season from a schizophrenic team. These guys will delight us and break our hearts in equal measure, and this opening day fits that template to a tee.
What a day for baseball!!!!
Both closers collapse in Chicago. Gordan is ripped in Philly. Colorado starter can't throw a strike. Santana deals.
Kyle Lohse seems to be used to adversity.....hope he has plenty of run support just in case......... Colorado can swing the bat.....

and I wouldn't be shocked to see Kip Wells come in here tomorrow and shut us down.
ok, maybe i'm being dramatic, but it's infuriating that we get off to such a great starft, against a pitcher who normally baffles this squad, and it all gets erased.

I am honestly really worried that exactly that will happen
You would think we'd batter Wells around pretty good, but you also must remember:

b) How much Jason Marquis dominated us in his first start against us in 2007, with the "ax to grind"

Isn't today's non-game
really foreboding for the season? Opening day, great start -- up 5-1 in the 3rd. Pujols has a jack, Ankiel w/ something to prove -- a 2 run double and the rains come, washing out the game and leaving us w/ Kyle Lohse as what amounts to our opening day starter against the defending NL champs.
It wouldn't surprise me if we get 3 hit tomorrow and end up losing 6-0.
I wonder what LaRussa will do
with a RHP on the mound, will Skippy and Ludwick head back to the bench, with Kennedy stepping into the lineup as well?

Izturis actually taking a walk. His career high in walks is lower than Albert's high in HRs.
Now he's probably thinking "If only I hadn't walked, maybe the game would have been official. I won't do that anymore"
At the game today...
different atmosphere than last two years. No stadium to open, no chanpionship to celebrate. Weird.
And three year olds don't do rain delays well. At all.
