A home for Reyes?

obviously a little bored today, but  this headline caught my eye.

Would Mo send uber-whipping boy and starter-turned-reliever Anthony Reyes over there?

What could you get for Reyes right now? Is Brandon Wood a possibility?

Maybe lightning could strike twice with trades involving the Angels.

Sorry

They already have that Santana kid (the bad one) and everybody says he's basicly the same story as Reyes. I could see them bitting if Reyes has a couple of good outings in a row, but then why in the world would we trade him?

No

Reyes' stock is too low to bring a Brandon Wood type of player. In fact, I'm not really sure it was ever high enough.

What about Baltimore?

I saw that their deal with the Cubs concerning Brian Roberts is "Off the Table". Is there any package we could build around Reyes that could send Roberts over here, and maybe get rid of one of our black hole middle infielders? I'm not a prospect expert, just thinking out loud here.

Completely unrealistic... but a breath of fresh air.

Not optimism, just asking

Like I said, I don't know what it would take, I was just seeing what people had to say. All I know is that we're trying (off-and-on trying) to send Reyes somewhere, and they're actively shopping Roberts. Given our suckiness of the MIF and their need for SP, it would make sense. Now, I don't know how much it would take, or if we even have a package they'd take. Just thinking out loud, really.

Roberts...

I'm sure we good get him with a good package of prospects, but why sell out the farm when we won't be that good anyway.

I would be willing to send something like Reyes + Duncan + Boggs for Roberts, but I think it might take more.

And even then

I don't see the point of throwing the same type of offensive product we'd get from him away by giving them Duncan AND prospects. I do want A-Rey to get the eff out of dodge so he can prove us wrong and nab 10+ wins as a starter.

Rasmus or bust.

The Orioles aren't going to swap an All-Star middle infielder

for a back end starter, left fielder who struggles defensively, and a middle reliever/back end starter. Not gonna happen. The Orioles would probably start by asking for Rasmus.

I'd think that

any team would love to get their hands on the most exciting player in baseball!

Wait.......never mind... ;-)

Deluding ourselves about Reyes

Go over to Future Redbirds and read the scouting reports on Reyes. If that reflects the consensus of opinion of major league scouts, I would think he is pretty much worthless in trade. You might get someone to take him off your hands as a throw in with other players. Someone might pick him if you DFA'd him. But I don't think anyone is going to give you anything for him.

erik articluated that point of view well

but it's not at all a consensus. it's one point of view that's making the rounds. but there's another point of view which says he still has some potential. according to the P-D, scouts from 10 different teams came to watch his start against washington the other day. there's still a lot of interest in reyes around baseball.

Reyes' Home

Reyes will set up camp on the bullpen pine pony, only emerging in games that are +/- 5 runs.

We'd rather have scrap heap starters coming off of dramatic injuries that face an uphill climb to become their former selves than young players who face an uphill climb to achieve their previously touted potential.

On the flip side...

with Looper, Welley and Thompson in the rotation he'll probably pitch 2-3 times a week.

Thanks for the highlight moments 15 and 27!!!

Colorado

Personally, I am against trading the guy. I mean looking at his peripherals last year, most of them were comparable if not better than Waino's. H/9, K/9, and BB/9 were all there. However. If he were to be traded. Would Colorado's Ian Stewart be a target? I realize that Stewart is a good prospect but he is blocked in Colorado by Atkins at 3rd. Could the Card's put a package together that could nab the kid?

Roberts

If they can package Duncan and Reyes in a trade for Roberts that would be amazing (where's Walt Jocketty when you really need him?). The O's need a starter and last I checked their 1B/DH situation was Aubrey Huff and Kevin Millar. Throw in a prospect or 2 and maybe they'll bite. Maybe Ottavino? Motte? Roberts would be an absolute stud in Saint Louis batting lead-off. In case some of you are unaware, check this out:

Roberts stats last year

42 doubles
50 stolen bases, caught 7 times.
89 walks
.377 OPB .432 OPB .290 BA
12 HR / 57 RBI
7 errors in 154 games at 2B.

presumably, he'd be batting in front of Rasmus, Pujols, Glaus, and Ankiel for the next 2 years.

he's owed 6.3M in '08 and 8M in '09.

Wishful thinking? Probably. But damn thats a sweet 1-5

not to mention

the fact that it would piss cubs fans off. That's the icing on the cake right there
