Let's make a waiver claim for Ruben Gotay
Mr. Gotay was placed on waivers by the Mets, and given our quagmire in the middle infield, I hope the front office at least puts in a claim on him.
At 25, he's still young-ish, and last season posted career highs in AVG (.295), OBP (.351) and SLG (.421). All but the slugging were above league average, and the slugging was damn close.
Gotay's not likely to become an All-Star or anything, but I think he looks like a league average player, and seems likely to sustain that for at least a few years. It's not sexy, but if we can pickup a guy like this, even if it means eating Kennedy's contract, it seems like a good move to me.

Good idea
I think Gotay would be a very good pickup but I don't see it happening. They are committed to AK even though Gotay would be a clear upgrade.

At the worst
it would be better seeing him as a backup instead of Aaron Miles.....
Personally, I think we got hosed on that call.

We are flush with depth at middle infield &
outfielders as well as starters and RH relievers.
I feel we need a lefty reliever and maybe a solid 3rd base prospect although Craig may be just that...
"Why does he keep saying that?"

Regarding a lefty reliever
What about Craig Breslow, late of the Boston Red Sox?
His stats, including minor leagues:

Walk rates are a little high, but balanced by decent and consistent k rates. At the least, he's an upgrade over the Floreses. And when TJ gets back, you can take the best two of Johnson, Breslow, and Villone.

No Way
We need to go after Marcus Giles. The Rox cut him today. He isn't even 30 yet and has had a very good spring. He could play either of our middle infield positions and it would be a MAJOR upgrade.... (assuming iz2 and AK are the starters)

Not a bad idea
He's not a long-term answer, but his bat would look a lot better at the bottom of the lineup than Kennedy or Miles.
I stand behind my long-standing idea to get Josh Barfield from the Indians (he was sent to Triple-A a few days ago). He was terrific with the Padres in 2006. Admittedly, he wasn't good last year, but I think that was an aberration. I'd rather see him than any of the other options.
Personally, I think we got hosed on that call.

Young but in decline
I was thinking the same thing about Giles, but after looking more closely at his numbers, he looks like a player in serious, early decline. He is only 30 and has produced some very valuable seasons, but I think Gotay is more likely to be productive going forward.
Any of these guys being mentioned could just be more junk on the junk pile - but what have we got to lose? More playing time for Kennedy, Izturis and Miles?

What happened
that the Mets cut him? Must be hurt or have had a horrendous spring to be cut after a season like that.
I'd give GIles a try-out, but he just can't seem to stick anymore. I tend to wonder if someone like Hoffpaiur could put a similar line to these types anyway though.
