Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Izy2 and Kennedy

If I'm guessing right most people agree they should part ways with both. Not many people liked the C.Iz signing and his spring hasn't helped.

If memory serves last year Kennedy wasn't too hot(in S.T.) and they stuck it out with him as well.

We all know there are a ton of other options at 2b,Even before you explore outside options(see belly thread)
but what about SS.  I haven't heard how Ryan has done in S.T. I don't see a deal where they could part with both.

If you cut A.K. youd have to play miles, ryan or hauff. Also haven't heard how Hauff is doing this spring, if he's unproven this seems unlikely. If you cut IZ2 then miles and ryan?

They could cut both keep ryan and miles for ss? and perhaps get belly?

They probably ride it out

It's a bad situation ...
I believe, with over a third of ST games completed so far, Izturis is playing himself off this team ... however, there doesn't seem to be much depth at the position ... Kennedy may be starting to turn the corner ... he still seems to be struggling, but at least his BA is around .250 at this point ... I really like Adam, and hope he plays through it; he used to be really good ... what to do? ... if things don't change I would bite the bullet and play Ryan at SS ... I would rather see him make a few errors there and get his offense rather than continue to see Izturis make there and ground/pop out ... I would go ahead and start Kennedy at second ... if he doesn't pull through, I'd promote Hoff from Memphis ... I wouldn't trade though as I've seen suggested, unless the team just doesn't think ANYONE from Memphsis can handle the job ... I hope Kozma develops as quickly as Rasmus ... then Ryan can play 2B, where he's better suited ... someday ...

Doesn't seem likely that either will be cut.
Kennedy is owed 7.5 million over the next two years.  Izturis is owed 2.85 million.  Too much money to just let Kennedy go.  He'll be given an opportunity to right the ship, even if that's sitting on the bench.  As for Izturis, a GM isn't going to own up to a 2.85 million dollar mistake in spring training the first year on the job.

I'm in favor of cutting Izturis loose and giving the opportunity to Ryan.  I see no reason to cut Kennedy at this point though.

If he's hitting under .100
going into the season, Mo will need to cut him in order to stop the bleeding. Keeping it at one mistake is better than making two.
On with the (good) youth movement!

Junior Spivey
Why can't they do the same with Izturis? Ask him to go to Memphis to work things out.

good idea
especially the "never to be heard from again" part

btw, found myself in an interesting group conversation not long ago.....one guy (who I had never met) had spent time in the Dodger's farm system

He had no clue as to my allegiance.......I asked him what player he competed against impressed him the most..........he replied "Brandon Inge" - as a player and a person

So, I naturally asked about the "person" who impressed him the least.....you guessed it - Itzuris........said he was really arrogant and stubborn.......here's hoping he has matured

enough rumors from strangers

Inge
seems like a nice fellow.
Rasmus or bust.

Strauss
told Bernie and Randy today that he doesn't think Kennedy is an automatic lock for the 25 man roster.

Here's the thing
There is NO WAY the team will cut Izturis and have Kennedy 'not make the 25 man roster'.  I'm sure it is either/or, and both are pretty terrible options.

I'd rather see Kennedy not make it out of camp, just for the simple fact that later releasing Izturis would be a much easier decision based on his contract.

another reason to keep izturis
While both are terrible, at least Izturis can play multiple positions. Kennedy is a 2b only...and a bad one at that.

The thought of
Kennedy, Izturis, a pitcher and yeah even Molina batting 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th (in some form) in the order has black hole written all over it and will kill rallys pretty damn quick.

There are some MAJOR problems right now with the way this club has been put together this year I'm afraid, and Tony & Mo has to see this I would think. I'm thinking right now the Cards could be one of the worst 2-3 teams in the NL right now.

Cutting Miles & Izturis right now will actually make this team better off in my opinion. Will it happen? I doubt it. But I will be suprised if either one of them are still with the club by All-Star break.

middle infield
The Cardinals weak spot is Middle Infield and Starting Pitching, and the problem goes all the way through the minor league syetem as well.

Izturis-  Not very good.  Banking on 2004 version
Kennedy- Not verry good.  Seems to have lost it.
Miles- Not verry good.  Whatever cheap as hell.
Ryan- Who knows.  Not a game changer. So what if he is a bit better than IZ, doesn't mean he is a top SS in the NL.
Hoffpauir- Ok he could be a better OBP version of Miles who is cheaper than Miles.  For all it's worth it's hard to say Miles is expensive.  I guess Hoff has more upside only because he is younder.  I don't think he is that talented.
Barden-  Out of the pictuer.  No a MI anyway.
Jimenez- Who cares.
Green- Will he ever do anything
Kozma-  Who knows.  He looks to be a ways away.
Martinez- Mixed revies, is he a SS or a 2B, and how is he offensively.  Hard to say, but at least he is young.  I guess right now he has the best "upside" in the system in MI.  He has done some good things and he is young.

What do we have for Belliard?
Based on how little Harris, Orr and Boone are producing compared to Belliard, who is one of the top two hitters in camp, looks like Belliard should be starting for the Nats.

Acta has to be thinking he's got his 2nd baseman. Also, they look to be a pretty good team outside of needing a couple of starters. Who would they want for Belliard, they have relief pitching. Why would they want to trade him to us?

"We collect players that can hit and play 1st Base, but sorta play in the outfield most of the time." "Also, relievers that start!"

Check out Goold's blog post today
about Kennedy's performance at the plate today and then look at the comments section.  Think the PD staff doesn't think Kennedy is toast?

by Hardcore Legend on Mar 11, 2008 11:50 PM EDT reply actions

Who do we trade...
No doubt, Kennedy's not where they need him to be, far from it. What do we give the Nats for their second hottest hitter in camp and their best bet at 2nd base judging from Boones, Orrs and Harris' pitiful springs?
