Rotoworld Poll

I am not very pleased with whoever is writing the rotoworld "news" that pops up on the side bar.  If whoever writes the news belittles other teams as well I guess there's nothing to do about it.  I set up a poll to see if any other users would like to get rid of it or to get something else besides what we got. I know some people have commented about it so I decided to make an entry where everyone can discuss it.

It's generally the only way I get baseball news when it breaks.  So what if they have alittle fun with the editorial part?  It's not like we are the '27 Yankees.
Still looking for 1985 Regular Season games on DVD/VHS

True
But it is tiresome, especially since it's so obviously a Cub fan. At least try to be somewhat objective when dealing with your team's "rival" (in quotes because, well, how can 100 years of suckitude be anyone's rival?). The difference is he gets paid to write that drivel--I do not. The Cub fan who runs MLB Trade Rumors does a great job of being objective as possible when reporting. He's a Cub fan and I consider his blog/site/whatever the right term is today to be one of my favorite daily reads. The Rotoworld guy is just a regular prick. Informative, yes. But I'd rather wait a few hours to hear news than get it directly from the prick. I say jettison.

by rockin redbird on Feb 29, 2008 2:22 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed
It's the fastest way to get the breaking news. Also, they're not exactly incorrect with a lot of their negativity.
On with the (good) youth movement!

Rotoworld
Is generally the first place I look for baseball news. Who cares what the writer has to say. Negative or positive, it only reflects one persons opinion.

Maybe you could give an example of "what you are not very pleased with"...??

by El Hombre on Feb 29, 2008 2:24 AM EST reply actions

Uh...
maybe something like this:

"They should know by now that only the manager is allowed to drive drunk in St.Louis. Spiezio's life is a mess and this probably won't help him turn it around." Is that information or completely biased opinion based on nothing but fan preference? I don't really give a rat's ass about what this guy thinks, but I wonder why I HAVE to see his opinions when they are so obviously biased against our boys.

<end of rant>

by rockin redbird on Feb 29, 2008 2:40 AM EST up reply actions

You don't
Only read the part in black and you'll be golden. Just ignore the blue text. That's why they separate it like that.

How about
a Rotoworld link--if you want to read his "information," you have to click on a link. I'd be fine with that. I bet Rotoworld wouldn't be.

by rockin redbird on Feb 29, 2008 2:49 AM EST up reply actions

I dunno abou that,
I think we are capable of not reading it if we know it will offend us. But I agree that is inappropriate for a seeming baseball news organization to show bias in their news. It would be like national announcers favoring one team for an entire game and beating up on the other team, very tiresome. Is there an alternative to rotoworld? I like how it's the first place that things generally get reported, but really do not like the writing of it.

by davethebutcher on Feb 29, 2008 3:11 AM EST up reply actions

adding rotoworld
to your adblock list would be the libertarian solution.

by SleepyCA on Feb 29, 2008 3:40 AM EST up reply actions

I wouldn't be sad to see it go.
Most of the news they "break" they have sourced from the Post-Dispatch and I've already seen it.  I live far from the Lou, but I read the Post-Dispatch on-line every morning. I bet most other posters here read the P-D as well.  I find their snarkiness rather tiresome most of the time, but the Spiezio item was over the top.

MLBtraderumors is written more objectively and seems more cutting edge as far as news is concerned.  While I realize that I could ignore Rotoworld, I wouldn't be sorry if it simply went away.

ah
You guys can say he's unfair to the Cardinals, but he, or perhaps they, make jokes on everyone, whenever possible.  Personally, I find it to be no big deal, and, at times, enjoyable.

I don't regular RW anymore cause I get the Cardz news on here.  I usually see it in the sidebar before I see it anywhere else.
Thanks for the highlight moments 15 and 27!!!

People need to get a thicker skin around here
First off, it's not just one person writing those comments. There's several and they aren't all Cubs fans.

Second, don't look at it.

Don't really care
I have the internet.  I can find info about the Cardinals and other players.   Ironic people need to be dependent on a sidebar news flash.

I am not a fan of the pointed jabs,  but I also feel the Cardinals have no room to balk at the substance abuse perception associated with this team.

TLR refused to talk about a lot of it in the press last year.   There are more problems this year.   PED influenced players have followed TLR his whole career.   The Cardinals seem to think nothing of acquiring even more of these tainted players.

I may not appreciate it as a fan, but the Cardinals made thier bed and they can sleep in it.   TLR deserves the heat IMO.

by RedbirdRay on Feb 29, 2008 8:30 AM EST reply actions

Tainted Poll
I would also like to note that 2/3 of the options are the same thing.

"Get rid of it" and "Change it to something else" are the same thing.   That makes the results look different then they really are.

by RedbirdRay on Feb 29, 2008 8:32 AM EST reply actions

Just because it's negative
Doesn't mean it's not true.

I like RW. the best way for the Cards to avoid being slammed is to not do stupid things.

by Harknights on Feb 29, 2008 9:33 AM EST reply actions

Just another example
of how negative people generally are on the internet. I think the guy is a prick but what can you do? If writing stuff like that makes him feel better than so be it.

by paCardsFan on Feb 29, 2008 9:43 AM EST reply actions

The guy isn't a prick
He just happens to be dissing our favorite team.  Lighten up.  I think the reason is hurts so much is because....its true.  Apparently it is perfectly ok for the manager to have an issue, but not players.

Quite honestly, I am getting a bit sick and tired of some of the incidents surrounding this squad.  Whether its Tony bitching out a player, substance abuse on the team that led to a death last year, and PED scandals, it is always something with these guys.  The more I find out about how the Cards handle their business the less I like it.  Perhaps a bit of ridicule will force this team to address some of these issues in a better and more up front way.

The answer isn't banning Rotowire or whoever.  It is in holding our team accountable when they continually fuck things up.

The hot stove is burning...

If
Tony gets a second DUI or the like then it will be a problem. This wasn't Scott's first chance. He also had six warrants out for him. Major, major differences.
SUBURBS: Where Americans cut down trees and then name streets after them.

by beanocook on Feb 29, 2008 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Absolutely correct
It just seemed to me that the situation with Tony was not treated with the seriousness it should have been.  It irritated me a little because it seemed like an opportunity for the organization to take a strong stance and it didn't.

Who knows, if Tony got heavily fined or a suspension from the team for the act....maybe Hancock doesn't get drunk and kill himself later that year because he doesn't want the same treatment.

Obviously....you never know.  Chances are things would have still happened the way they did.  I guess what I am trying to say is that it sucks.  It completely sucks and I think the club could have handled everything better than they did.

The hot stove is burning...

Ridiculous
This has to be the most ridiculous diary in the history of the Viva El Birdos diaries. And I do just throw around superlatives. What? What is this guy even talking about. I swear he has been sent here from ESPN. Check this man's credentials!

Rotoworld is easily the least biased sports news website around. At least they report on little facts dealing with the Cardinals. Where else can you find that from a nationally syndicated news organization? Surely not CBSSportsline. No Cardinals updates on FOXSports.com. Definitely not on the main pages of ESPN.com.

Not to mention, its FREE! Free sports news that is accurate, constantly updated, and well-organized. Good opinions from sports gurus. What the hell are you complaining about?

They reported some facts about the Cardinals with a little added sarcasm and it hurt your feelings? And the assumptions that these guys are all Cubs fans -- that's ridiculous. Rotoworld employs writers from all over the country. I know this to be true.

Hell, I'd rather the writers of Rotoworld be Cubs fans than your typical East Coasters with a belief that the only real teams in the MLB reside in Boston and New York.

This poll is stupid. I'd go so as far as to say its selfish. Get a clue, pal.
