Mench signs with TX

a minor league deal with Tx. Many wanted a gamble by the cards. Here are the remaining guys...Barry Bonds, Reggie Sanders, Shannon Stewart, Kenny Lofton, Corey Patterson, Shawn Green, and Trot Nixon..

I doubt they will go after any, and none liked my patterson idea, so what about either offering minor league offers to any of those(which a few of those guys might laugh)or maybe wait til ST is complete and see how the youn guys do. Then if a need is pressing and one of those guys is unsigned grab em.

i wanted mensch
I have to believe that he signed with Texas because he wanted at least a shot at more than a part time job, which is all he would have had with us.  But he would have made a heck of a platoon partner for Duncan, with Ankiel/Ludwick available to sub in CF, and he would have easily outperformed Skip or Gonzalez even if played every day.  None of the rest make any sense, barring multiple spring training injuries, but of course I'd offer all of them the deal we offered Gonzalez; none of them would accept it though.

Anyway, if Bavasi doesn't sign Bonds, after the "go all in" trade he just made, he's insane.

if we could
somehow get Stewart to a minor league invite, I'd be content, but I expect him to sign for more. I know the last thing we need is more outfielders, and that he's 34, but I'd rather have him coming off the bench than Skip.

Here are his numbers:

Nelson Cruz
It appears to me that the Rangers keep bringing in outfielders to block this guy (Bradley, Byrd, Hamilton, Mench). It appears he is going to be a good Right handed hitter with decent defense. Looks like a good platoon partner with Duncan or even an everyday right fielder. He put up big numbers during Winter league. I don't know what it would take to get him but its definetly worth the effort.

I'll take
Kyle Loshe if it's a 1 year deal, 2 years if it's a team option. I think we have enough outfielders but Patterson the best of whats left.

lboros had
a nice post about signing him on Feb 4. Short term I think it makes the rotation alot more solid and he would be a hell of a trade chip at the deadline if we're out of it.

There has been reports he might sign a 1 year deal, but other reports say it's between the Mets and Phillies for a 3 year deal, that seems nuts.

or
we could've gotten Benson to a minor league deal. Not a bad guy to have in your minors if you ask me.

Hopefully...
one or two of those guys is still available if the need arises mid-season due to injuries, etc...Some of 'em will probably be "retiring".
Thanks for the highlight moments 15 and 27!!!
