Freakonimcs and durable pitching

I know there's a bunch of stat-headers in our community, and if they're anything like me, they might also be fans of Freakonomics.  Anyway, there was a post on their NYTimes blog analyzing the Roger Clemens story in light of statistical analysis.  Even though I don't care at all about the ESPN-fueled Clemens drama, this is a really interesting article:  http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/11/analyzing-roger-clemens-a-step-by-step-guide/

Perhaps this can give us perspective on the Cardinals pitching problems.  Would sticking with Reyes as the fifth starter be of use?  Can he improve  this season as some of the projections suggest?  Makes me glad we don't have, say, Steve Traschel as our fifth starter.
