Projecting Ludwick 2009 (or predicting Ryan's nickname)

So the 2008 baseball season has come and gone. The awards, for better or worse, are in the rearview mirror too. It is a sad time for this baseball fan, but the winter meetings are just around the corner, so things will get better soon.

What does this have to do with a fanpost? I needed a little extra baseball excitement to pass the time until the Hot Stove really starts heating up, so I figured a 2009 projection/poll for the player who surprised me most in 2008 would do the trick.

Feel free to discuss using any stats you like, or none if they aren't your thing (but that really is no fun).

So here we go, what do you think is the most likely outcome for Luddy next year:

  • GOBwick- Luddy goes crazy and has the best season in baseball history. He hits .400, mashes 100 HRs and soars past Hack Wilson's RBI record.
  • MVPwick- Lud has a Pujolsian type season. He finishes with a 1.100+ OPS and becomes the second straight Cardinal to bring home the MVP
  • Studwick-  Ryan has another season in the same range as this seaon. He falls in the 30-40 HR range, with 110-120 RBI and a .950+ OPS
  • Ludwick-  Ryan has a fully acceptable season, 20-30 HRs. 90-100 RBI, 850-900 OPS
  • Dudwick- Luddy falls way back, he hits between 10-20 HRs, and his OPS falls into the 600 range
  • Releasewick- Ryan fails to reach double digits in HRs , makes Izturis look like a power bat , and is DFAd before the season is done.
  • Other- The world ends, the economy fails and takes baseball with it, Ludwick retires before the season to join a cult, etc...

I think he will have a Studwick type season.

Although he might be just Ludwick. Also the releasewick name is hilarious.

I should have added

that anyone who actually votes for Releasewick HAS to add a comment, you know, to explain the logic behind that kind of thinking.

I think that

Cutwick would have been better than releasewick, personally.

Somewhere between Ludwick and Studwick.

Those two options span a HR count of 20-40. That’s a big range.

It appears

thus far, that after 14 votes, its all tied up!!!!

I would like to make a suggestion for a new name to take the place of other: Thudwick, Ludwick has a stroke, heart attack, breaks a hip, has a foul ball off his bat hit him in the face, has Albert take a line drive off his nose…all leading to a silent thud as he falls to the ground.

For some reason, I don't enjoy watching Big Mac hit #62, but I fondly remember Ray Lankford blasting the ball out of the park in the same game. He had one sweet swing!!

Ludwick

I think it will be

that's how I voted

but I don’t think that would be a disappointing season. A .900 OPS would have made him the 3rd-best hitting qualified corner outfielder in baseball (5th best with over 500 PA’s) not named Ludwick last year.

I agree

that’s better than “fully acceptable.” It would be a pretty damned good season — just one that’s a small step backward from this season.

I voted Studwick

I almost voted MVPwick. For some reason I just see a 40HR season and a higher OBP. I just don’t think it will be enough to get the MVP.

yeah

he could certainly do that, if the learning curve of his hitting career is still headed in the upward direction (which I think it might be, maybe MVPwick ’10)

What happened to MVPwick

int the poll? I wouldn’t vote that way, ‘cause even if he put up MVP numbers he won’t win the MVP. Count me in for Studwick. Maybe you should call Releasewick “Crudwick”.

I am actually hoping for “Budwick”, as in soaked in Budweiser in the locker room at the end of the season.

Excellent

Crudwick and Budwick, I mean. Here’s hoping for the latter.

I could not agree more

that is why we need an edit poll feature

you definately can edit the poll just click the pencil that says edit on your fanpost

Ludwick

I think he’ll have a high-Ludwick, or possibly lower-studwick type season, but you also should add Bravewick, Padwick, and Rockwick because he might not be having this season for the Cards.

Hey

is that the famous original Bass Pro Shop “Liquor, Guns and Ammo” sign from Columbia, MO?

It is

And I recently discovered the original sign is hanging up in Shakespear’s Pizza in Columbia. I remember it from before it was a Bass Pro Shop.

Yeah,

long time Columbia landmark. Whenever I wanted to explain the midwest to someone from another region I would always reference that sign. I tried to buy it when the store went out of business, but it was more than I could afford.

Here we go

Somewhere between ludwick and studwick….though I would like to see a GODwick season where he simply sacrifices other teams

HUDwick...

….out of nowhere, President Obama will pick Ryan Ludwick to be his new Housing & Urban Development Director. Mark it down…

Udder Possibilities...

SCUDwick – Ryan becomes CNN’s hottest new reporter on the front lines in the Middle East…
JUDDwick – Ryan marries one of the Judd sisters and retires from baseball to act in After School Specials on tv…
JUDGEwick – Ryan retires to become a Supreme Court justice…
BUDwick – Ryan becomes spokesman for, well you know…
CUDwick – Ryan becomes leader of and spokesman for the organized Holostein uprising across the USA…
CHUDwick – Ryan retires from baseball to lead a team of plucky mercenary soldiers to fight the Cannibaliastic Humanoid Underground Dwellers…
FLOODwick – Ryan accepts President Obama’s cabinet position to lead FEMA (the shadow government!)…
BLOODwick – Ryan becomes a vampire, appearing on HBO’s True Blood in a recurring role…
MUDwick – Ryan retires to wrestle catfish in the Mississippi River…
SPUDwick – Ryan becomes Governor of Idaho….

Should the stadium...or Budweiser

try to take advantage of the 32 oz. Budwick or Budwicker (this is too close to butt-licker for me)? I’m thinking a cold frosty Budwick select sounds pretty tasty right about now.

by cardzfanbub on Nov 19, 2008 10:36 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good call...

I was thinking of 37 oz based off his HR’s this year, but that won’t mean much next year. 47 oz Budwicks all around. What’d that be a $15 beer?

by cardzfanbub on Nov 19, 2008 12:03 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Regarding BUDwick

Wouldn’t it be Inbevwick. Then you could add another name after it and get a naughty A P phrase.

Like: Inbevwick Marlyn Monroe.

For some reason, I don't enjoy watching Big Mac hit #62, but I fondly remember Ray Lankford blasting the ball out of the park in the same game. He had one sweet swing!!

In honor of the Mang

Who declared it was an honor to be in the sang congbersation as players like Briang Braung, I like pronouncing Luddy’s name the Pujols way, which I think would be something like Bryang Bludwing.
BloodWing would be a nice metal band name.
