7:22 CT

according to FoxSports.

Is it fraud when Cubs ownership says "this year is our year?" Can somebody sue for that?

I know

I saw this thread and thought the game started early in hopes that it would be over for the debate. As it turns out, it’s going up against the debate.

I'm interested in the debate tonight too

seeing as it’s the last one and the one a couple weeks ago was quite disappointing.

Both have the potential

to just become sparring matches…okay maybe not.

Between the two

I’ll say the debate has a better chance of opponents attacking each other. I think these two ball clubs have put that other stuff behind them and hopefully they just play baseball tonite

At least that would make the debate exciting to watch

I’d pick McCain in that fight. POW and all that.

Not wanting to turn this into a political forum

but Obama is probably stronger than alot of people give him credit for. He did play basketball in high school and was pretty good from what I’ve seen. But that’s all I’m gonna say, again don’t wanna make this a political blog

Yeah

I probably shouldn’t have brought it up. The early thread and the debate just made me think it might be an early game. This is my fault. Shame on me!

I really don't think

there’ll be that many attacks tonight. Polling’s telling the candidates to stay away from too much negativity and they’ll be seated, practically right next to each other, at the same table as the moderator. It’s not really conducive to a lot of attacks. I’d say it’s more likely call tonight’s debate boring than exciting.

This disaster of an inning aside, if you had your choice...

would you rather the ‘09 Cardinals have Furcal at SS and Lopez at 2B, or Izturis at SS and Hudson at 2B? I lean towards the latter if Hudson is healthy, essentially because I’m tired of the revolving door of ineptitude at 2nd base…

by LukeMP1186 on Oct 15, 2008 10:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If I had MY choice,

I’d see if Brian Barden could play 2B; I think the Cards would get out-bid for Furcal, and the O-Dog is a question mark in my mind due to age and injury…

by The Ol Goaler on Oct 15, 2008 10:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you're going to go with a guy who can't play defense...

you may as well stick with Lopez or Miles. At least they’ve proven they can hit big-league pitching, which Barden hasn’t yet done. You can’t go into next year expecting to compete with Barden and Izturis up the middle…

by LukeMP1186 on Oct 15, 2008 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe not...

…but Barden played 2B and SS for the USA and the Memphis Redbirds this past season. From what little I’ve seen, he can handle either position defensively; I’m just not sold on the free-agent possibilities in the middle infield…

Assuming Lidge doesn't pull a 2005x2

is Hamels the NLCS MVP? I have to confess I haven’t followed the series very closely; is there someone I’m missing?

What the hell is McCarver talking about?

Kemp hits it INCHES from a HR to the deepest part of the park, and McCarver says he should’ve taken the pitch?

defy, cards, defy. hey logic --- you suck.

"and for the first time since 1993...

..the philadephia phillies are going to the world series."

That seems vaguely familiar.

I don't know why i dislike the Philies so much, but i do

Still, convincing series win there.

i was big on l.a.

oh well. i normally root national league in the series, but i’m gonna have to root for tampa this year if they finish off boston.

by adiueordie on Oct 15, 2008 11:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

regardless

i won’t be upset if tampa loses to philadelphia. i just hope its a good series. seven games would be awesome.

that's a lame pennant celebration

Yet totally worth it to see Charlie Manuel that happy.

y'know what I could use right now

A Ryan Howard philly cheesesteak commercial. Because he showed more emotion there.

(And I want a cheesesteak.)

beacuse he hasn't earned it?

J/K. Still, for a “rushmore”, I’d go with senior management types.

Branch Rickey, Gussie Bush, Whitey Herzog, and either TLR or WJ? Or maybe jack Buck, instead of the latter two?

the enemy's gate is down.

I voted

Musial, Buck, Augie, and Ozzie.

Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me......with nothin'.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Me:

Musial, Gibby, Pujols and Jack Buck. I thought of Hornsby at first and then realized that Jack Buck has meant far more to the Cards than Hornsby ever did.

by mattisnotfrench on Oct 16, 2008 1:25 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My issue with Pujols

What if he decides to hit the free agent market after 2011, signs with another team and plays another 5-10 years? Doesn’t that take some of the luster off him? It’s like in the article where it’s mentioned that McGwire and Warner were favorites to be on a St. Louis version. Would look sorta silly now wouldn’t it?

That's why 10 minutes after next season ends

they need to draw up an extension that makes him the highest-paid mange in baseball until he retires a Cardinal. Just like Musial and Gibson.
