ALCS Game 4 Open Thread

It's already 3-0, top of the first. 2 Ray bombs before Sox fans sit down w/ their Sam Adams! Pen's already active. Why was there no discussion of bringing Matsuzaka back in game 4, as the Dodgers did w/ Lowe last night? Wakefield doesn't exactly inspire fear in the hearts of the opponents.

If they were truly

serious about conserving energy they would ask us to turn our tv’s off during the game too…

If there were any decent broadcasters or broadcasts

We could listen to it on the radio.

BTW Lighting’s about 8.8, a television plus related appliances in 2001 is about 3.

Does anyone else

love JD in the lead off? i have always thought he was a 1 or 2 hitter instead of the middle of the lineup…might not matter much now but maybe we will see more of it next year…

ellsbury is 0-14

I am all for using that line as often as possible

(…that’s what she said.)

After Tackle Box rescued me from multi-tasking related doh’ness, got one more task than I could handle. What’d I miss?

I don't get the selection of Masterston here

What about Byrd or somebody like that? Delcarmen? Masterson is a high-leverage guy.

Well

I suppose if they don’t stop the bleeding and shift momentum right now nothing else matters. It seems like the argument that in the playoffs you play to win now and deal with tomorrow, tomorrow. But I dunno.

by ajo080s on Oct 14, 2008 8:50 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Byrd threw

at least a couple of innings in game 3, when Lester had to be pulled.

Oh fine

A logical answer. Whatever! Stupid research and knowing things and such.

good

it will be nice to see a championship series/game that doesn’t involve a team from boston for the first time in forever, it seems.

geez

When you participate in a blood drive you expect them to accommodate you, right? An hour and a half later I’ve missed the start of the game.

So what are the chances

we see any runs tonite not scored via the home run?

Ryan Howard: one of the most Statistically Outstanding players of all time

by RunninRedbird on Oct 14, 2008 8:55 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well,

there’s one run scored NOT via the home run.

by cardsgirl95 on Oct 14, 2008 9:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

hopefully these next 4

go back to the previous mode of scoring

Nope

Even more exiting though.

by ajo080s on Oct 14, 2008 9:51 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As long as it's TB that does the scoring

it can happen on HRs, guys getting walked in, 4-base errors, small ball, whatever.

by StanTheManFan on Oct 14, 2008 10:02 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

+1

That was fun – a 5-run sixth.

by cardsgirl95 on Oct 14, 2008 10:05 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well

This is exciting-ish. I’m glad for the Rays but I’m not sure I care much. On an unrelated note, American League games always seem different on t.v. It’s like they are darker or the noises people in those towns make are different. And actually it just dawned on me, it seems like there aren’t ever kids at Boston or New York games. Maybe that’s it, the laughter of children. Anyway, just making conversation because I’m that bored.

I know this has probably occurred to all of you...

but if the Rays go on to win the World Series, it will continue an impressive streak of World Series winners pouring more salt into the wounds of Cubs fans. Since the Yankees dynasty of ‘96, ’98-’00, here are your winners:

2001: Diamondbacks – 4th (FOURTH!) year of existence…

2002: Angels – I can’t really make a connection on this one…

2003: Marlins – Beat the Cubs in the NLCS, 2nd title in 11th year of existence…

2004: Red Sox – The only fan base that could REALLY understand how Cubs fans feel…

2005: White Sox – The OTHER team in Chicago…

2006: Cardinals – No explanation needed…

2007: Red Sox – Sox win another for good measure…

2008: Rays? – Never won more than 70 games until ’08, 11th year of existence…

Not only am I envious of the Rays for having BJ Upton

I am kinda envious of the DRaysBay blog game threaders, for their picture posting skills. They even got Kim Jung Il into the act. That takes talent my friends.

Aside from BJ Upton being pure awesome

Dude’s name is based off of being called “Bossman”. Unfair.

I was trying to figure out the Bossman angle

Bossman Junior huh? Very unfair.

As.good as he looks out there it is almost hard to believe he was drafted as a SS

It's hard to believe how bad he was at playing SS too given his athleticism

56, 44, and 53 errors in a season. Seriously.

the Rays are a very good team. Stop pretending that this is the most depressing thing that has ever happened to the sport of baseball.

Also whats up with Steven King?

I mean, I know the guy is a writer and a spoiled Red Sox fan…but he was reading a book durring the rout tonight.
Ok, I could almost…ALMOST understand reading a book durring a humiliating defeat (I give him credit for not leaving. Good man), But that means when he was getting ready for the game today he said to himslef…

“well I better grab a book incase it gets a bit boring”

WTF?!?

“Oh, and no players with telekinetic powers, please.”

Also on BBTN—
Kruk: Who brings a book to the playoffs?!
Ravech, Phillips, and probably V chorus: …Stephen King.
