It's a matchup of 2 houston area high school phenoms in tonight's game as Josh Beckett goes up against Scott Kazmir. The Rays absolutely must win this game lest they go back to Boston down 0-2. If they find themselves in that situation, Tampa's seen their last playoff game for at least a year.

God knows what'll happen tonight. Should be a great pitching matchup but Boston has beaten up Kazmir this year -- 18 ER in 18 IP. Beckett's been quite good vs. TB this year (2.07 ERA) but the Rays have seen him 5 times already. If they don't hit him tonight, it won't be from a lack of familiarity.

Anyway, are they not selling this place out or are they just not selling the seats up top?

And why wouldn’t they sell those seats? Seems like the place is pretty full. And if they aren’t, why are those seats up there? I was starting to think they weren’t selling them because of the catwalks, but weren’t the catwalks always there since the building was built? And it was constructed to be a baseball stadium, so I’m just confused by the whole thing.

They were claiming the sell-out wasn’t just so East Coast fans could turn it into their own personal home field, and it was their own fans buying it up.

Now that I see more crowd shots, though, I think the Rays crowd was really quiet and the Sox fans were really obnoxiously loud.

Then you’ve got the DH (a professional hitter) taking the place of the pitcher. Most NL lineups are real weak in the 8 and 9 holes while AL teams aren’t.

Okay, but that is mostly the DH effect then.

I was wondering if there was another factor. Stronger hitting I understand. But it also would imply pitching doesn’t keep pace. I guess I’m positing that the AL pitching is probably pretty close to the same quality as the NL, even if the hitters are at least a notch better overall.
