Is Wonder Brad going to the Pirates?

mlbtraderumors.com has reported the pirates are interested in Brad Thompson. Apparently Duncan for Wilson was discussed. How pissed off would everyone be if that had happened. Anyways some combo of Thompson and whatever is suppose to net us Morris & Wilson. I say if there is anything worth getting from the Pirates it's Ian Snell. Supposedly they talked about dealing him to the Mariners. I know it will take more than Thompson but how about throwing in Duncan and some AA talent for Snell and Bay. Hell we could throw in Schumacher and Mather. We have all kinds of spare parts for cheap which Pitt will need while they rebuild. Pitt wanted Adam Jones how about a poor mans Adam Jones by the name of Barton. Duncan, Barton, Boggs, Reyes, Thompson, Ryan etc... for Morris, Snell, Bay, Wilson. I would make that trade on Nintendo all day long. Thoughts?

I assume
that by Barton you mean Brian Barton, the recent rule V draftee by the Cardinals. It seems to me that we cannot trade him this year. Remember last year with Josh Hamilton? The Cubs picked him up & then immediately flipped him to the Reds for cash. Then Bud "no balls" Selig stepped in & said that the Reds could have him for nothing, because the Cubs were breaking the "Must be on the team's active roster" rule. Even if I am wrong, why would the Pirates want him? Didn't they have a chance at him before we did?

Hell yeah!
"Duncan, Barton, Boggs, Reyes, Thompson, Ryan etc... for Morris, Snell, Bay, Wilson"

I would make that trade anyday of the week....

Also If Thompson is the key piece in a trade for Wilson and Morris then THATS AWESOME......

Wilson AND Morris???
If you can't get either Snell or Bay then the Pirates aren't worth trading with.  Of course you probably have to take one of the above mentioned guy to even get the talks started, but....

Wilson AND Morris for anybody is a step backward.

Now....
Bay and Morris for Duncan, Thompson, and Reyes/Johnson would work.

absolutely right
unless you get snell and/or bay, there is no point.  taking morrris at this stage is doing them a favor and the return favor has to be snell or bay

Exception
I would definitely take Tom Gorzellany off of their hands as well, although he's probably not going to be on the trade block.

Pirates
there are only two pirates that I would have any remote interest in: Ian Snell and Jason Bay. Unfortunately, I don't see Thompson fetching either of them.

I am curious to hear what they are willing to give up, though. Thompson isn't your typical rumored trade target.

On with the (good) youth movement!

I'm sure one or two missed them as well.

Cool!
But sadly I'm sure that Desi Relaford is still out there somewhere.  I bet Shea Hillenbrand could be tacked on too.  The Cards are kind of like Bambi's mom...get missed a few times, but inevitably are going to get dinged with something (er, somebody?).

Seems to me
This should have been fully explored BEFORE signing Izturis.  And Jiminez.  And Miles.  There's not exactly room on the roster for Morris anymore.

What about something like Duncan, Thompson, and Bryan Anderson+ for Snell and Morris?  The plus being any combination of Reyes, Looper, Johnson, Flores, etc.

I'd rather have Snell and Bay, and in fact the very acquisition of Snell would make Morris quite unnecessary, but I can't imagine them trading us Snell without taking on Matty Mo's salary.

I guess the rotation would look something like:

Wainwright
Snell
Piniero
Morris
Clement

We'd be in a good position to drop Clement to keep him from getting incentives if he stinks the place up, with whoever doesn't leave of Thompson/Looper/Reyes, or post-surgery Mulder.

I think it's a pipe dream though, I can't imagine they'd trade us Snell.

Hmm
I don't see the Pirates trading Snell AND Bay in one package unless they get completely bowled over.  Snell is a pretty respectable young arm and Bay has always been a productive hitter who is also the face of that franchise right now.  It would take a hell of a deal to pull that one off.  I think if we did that it would have to include Rasmus, Duncan, Anderson, and then some 2/3 person combo of Waino, Garcia, Boggs, Thompson, and Perez.  I don't think that would be a wise package.

Anything that includes Morris or Wilson is just adding more shit to throw at that proverbial wall.  Only difference is that this shit is particularly old and expensive...Like a really crappy wine from 1994 or something.

I go to PNC Park about 20 times a year
and the fan base wants nothing to do with Bay anymore.  He comes up small in big situations, continually throws to the wrong bases from the outfield, appears disinterested in getting dirty while playing defense.

Hmm...imagine JD Drew, but wearing a Pirate uniform.

Freddy Sanchez is the face of that franchise right now.

by Hardcore Legend on Jan 9, 2008 3:33 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Really?
How about that.  The city of Pittsburgh singlehandedly had him starting the ASG at PNC last year, and they're down on him that badly eh?  I guess having a lousy year this past season doesn't help too much.

by redbirdnation8206 on Jan 9, 2008 3:37 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The Bay thing was more than likely MLB's
doing.  Freddy Sanchez was the fan favorite there that night.  His All-Star shirt sold out by the 4th inning (I was there and a friend tried to get one).  When he got in the game, they cheered him louder than any other player on the field.

I think Bay got lumped in with LaRoche (another supposed 'big time player') who provided very little early on in '07 and the fanbase turned on him.

LaRoche is another funny situation.  He was putrid to start the season while adjusting moving over from Atlanta but was able to hit around .300 from May through September.  Yet, the fans never forgave him of that April.

Fickle.

matty mo
i have always liked matty mo. and to me he will always be a cardinal but i am not sure i want to see him pitching for the cardinals next year. now if it is sitution where the only way to get a guy like bay is to take morris' contract then i guess that would be ok.

but i hope that thompson does get traded somewhere.

What makes sense?
Bay is the only guy on the Pirates that makes sense for the Cards that they have enough to deal for.

Is it a Thompson and Duncan + for Bay. I guess the Pirates may want to expand the deal to dump a Morris or Wilson contract.

I don't think the Cards can get Snell without sending Rasmus...and that is something I wouldn't do.

How about handin' me another helpin' of those mashed taters...thank you very much!

There is no way
the Pirates trade Jason Bay within the division unless the deck is stacked so completely in their favor that it is a can't miss.  And since the Cardinals do not have the trade chips to make that happen, we can forget about Jason Bay donning the Birds on the Bat anytime soon.  Sorry...keep dreaming.

Dave Littlefield
Wasnt he the GM at the time of the Aramis Ramirez trade?  And isnt he the same one that they "relieved" of his duties?  I dont see Neal Hunnington, I believe is his name, as doing the same type of deal.  Give him time, he could prove me wrong on that, but I just dont see it.
