Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

The lingering question is

Who is going to get promoted to Memphis to take the slot vacated by Rick?  Is there a Colby coming to Memphis.  I personally think that it's to soon and he's not ready having hopefully just broken completely out of his 2 month long slump.  The way things are working in this organization right now I wouldn't be surprised.  I am assuming that Spiezer going on the DL is what's opening the spot up for him but what if they have made a trade and are just waiting to announce it.  Hell maybe they signed Russel and are sending him right to Memphis. (Ha,Ha)  To many ifs ands or buts.  This move has really surprised me and I see something bigger happening in the very near future.  I think that the point of this was missed. It wasn't about Colby in a sense but something bigger behind the scenes. It unfortunately was not a club improvement but sadly a loss in a sense.

Luhnow has stated that Colby
will not be promoted.

Some players will move off the disabled list at Memphis to fill out their active roster.

Not to pick a fight
since I really enjoy reading just about anything you post but as per a post at futureredbirds "Wilmer Alvarado who Luhnow said had the most major league upside of any 3B prospect in the Cardinal system in a VEB interview earlier this year was released." True or not I haven't researched it yet, but this isn't the first time we've heard one thing and seen another happen lately.  I just feel there is some underlying inclination to pull something off driving this promotion.  Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he didn't deserve it, I just feel the timing has come to far out of no where to have been previously planned.

Isn't Springfield going to be in the AA
playoffs?  They wouldn't take Colby off that team if that were the case.

Then again, they bumped up Perez.

Call up PJ Walters!

Rasmus...
I agree that Colby should stay in AA but I wouldn't go so far as to say he is hardly hitting in AA. The kid has an impressive OBP of .368 and is slugging just under .500 those are both fairly impressive numbers, especially when you consider that he is only hitting .256. Not to mention that in the past week or so he is hitting .300 with an OPB of close to .500 (11 walks in 41 PA). Sure Ramus is having some troubles this year but I wouldn't go nearly as far as to say that he is HARDLY hitting.

How bout Marti?
he was going to go to Memphis until Schumaker got sent down.  It would make sense b/c he's older and it would clear some of the logjam in the Springfield OF.

Marti
Yeah, if they need an OF in Memphis, I say Marti is the guy who should get the call.  He's raking in a small # of ABs in Springfield but the guy has a limited shelf life.  They need to find out pronto what he can deliver.  I say push him up the system until he fails.
