For everyone that wants TLR gone

From Matty Mo:
Then, in a comment that could be perceived as a shot at manager Bruce Bochy and former manager Felipe Alou, Morris said, "It's almost been that you start to accept (losing) and I hate to say that, unfortunately. It was different. I was used to Tony La Russa in the past and he kind of runs the show, and there's a lot of structure. I went to the Giants where it was totally the opposite, a different, laid-back feeling."

May not mean anything to many of you, but I think it speaks volumes of what TLR expects compared to other teams.  Still the best manager in baseball, and the reason why I believe the Cardnals still can win this thing.  TLR is stubborn as hell and will never give up.  Can we not give the guy some props for that?
You think MattyMo would rather be in Pitt, SF or STL?

tony
i am a larussa fan. yes he makes some mistakes from time to time but he is still one of the best managers in baseball.i hear people all time talk about whitey and how great he was. whitey was a great manager to but he is gone now. larussa has turned this team into contenders.i think since 2000 they have been in the playoffs every year but 03. i hope tony returns next year. and with a few additions (mainley starting pitchers )they can be top contenders in 08 and maybe beyond. but this year they still have a chance. i have not given up hope. but really this team should be 15-20 games out. larussa has kept this team together to at least have a chance.

LaRussa is a bum
What has he ever won.  Last year the Cards barely had a winning record.

Bring in someone who can get us to the playoffs and maybe even (if we're lucky) a World Series appearance.

Thanks Hoffa
Apparently my attempt at sarcasm was lost on all but you (and presumably lboros).

Considering...
that we've spent the ENTIRE season without our #1 pitcher (one of the top five pitchers in all of baseball), and two cornerstone's of our offense have had career worst years we should consider ourselves fortunate to even be talking playoffs.  The rotation is an utter mess, and TLR might deserve some of the blame, but mostly we haven't had the pieces or the pieces have underperformed.

Manager of the Year?
For all of the (perceived or real) media slighting and the "East Coast Bias", I've heard multiple baseball "experts" suggest that this year might be Tony's best managing effort ever.

Given the (lack of a consistent) rotation, the ugly stats put up by Edmonds and Rolen, no 2B to speak of, and the Hancock tragedy, some guys have even gone so far as to suggest that Tony might earn some votes for Manager of the Year.

Honestly, we should probably be completely buried in the standings, yet it's the beginning of August and you have random sports personalities like ESPN's Mike Golic pointing out that "And after all this, there are the Cardinals, only 6 games out".

I get irritated by TLR's love for crafty vets over hungry youngsters as much as the next fan, but it is interesting that a lot of folks seem to think that he's done a pretty good job holding this trainwreck of a team together and keeping us relatively close.

Negative
The tone in here is so incredibly negative.

Thank you goodymobb. The only time I blame TLR and get frustrated is when his demeanor and little temper tantrums seem to be directed toward his players. Then again, he's also a manager who will defend you till then end if he feels you've given it all to win.

Here's the problem I have with Tony
I can deal with his platoon-happy ways and his obsession with his index cards. He makes some strategic in-game decisions sometimes that probably cost the team a fraction of a win here or there but pretty much every manager does, so whatever. What I can't stand is his overreliance on veterans and his unwillingness to use young players unless he just absolutely has to. This leads to things like "Well we have to pay Izzy $10 million a year, Tony has to have his veteran closer", which is something that can cost a team multiple wins due to an inefficient allocation of payroll resources.

Izzy
may not be a good example--except for when he was pitching hurt last year, Izzy has been an extremely successful and important cog in the Cards' playoff machine since he became a Bird. I'm frustrated by TLR's unwillingness to play youngsters too, but he's been right (mostly) to insist on a veteran closer like Izzy--especially when many of our better late-innings guys end up being converted to the rotation--a guy like Wainwright, obviously, could take Izzy's place for much cheaper, but he's worth much more to us as a starter. I don't always agree with TLR's obsessions, but Izzy is one I've pretty much always been on board for. When Izzy's healthy, he more than earns his paycheck.
