Go after Mussina?

I pose this since he's just been benched by the Yankees.  My guess is that he's done there.  While he's struggled this season, I believe a change of scenery could be just the thing he needs, and could be a great catalyst to move us on to another World Series championship.

Look forward to everyone's thoughts.

I'd take him on a cheap contract
purely on sentimental value, as Moose has been one of my favorite pitchers.

I thought for sure he would get to 300 wins 2 years ago, now, I doubt it.

Moose isn't getting ANY swing and misses lately, so perhaps pitch to contact with a guy who throws 8 different pitches working with Dave Duncan would be worth a 1 year trial until Carp returns.

I was just listening to Baseball Beat
and apparently there is a group of people that believe Mussina is not cooked but rather he has been incredibly unlucky over his last 3 starts, giving up a bunch of bloop hits and seeing eye singles.

Go After Mussina?
Why?  We are doing ok, and who knows what it would cost?

I would rather pass on that one, see what Mulder can do, and see what happens.  then, make a move or two in the winter...

Only if he comes cheap
Dude is turning 39 this December.  I'm sure he wouldn't come cheap, though, so I'd say no.

RELATIVELY Cheap
I realize we're not going to get him for a Kip Wells type deal.  I just don't want to see us overpay another past-his-prime veteran.

I think
Mussina is done.  I'm sorry, but 87 MPH heat with no movement doesn't get hitters out.  The last 33 hitters to go up against the Moose has gotten around 19 hits.

I think he's done, guys.

Let me get this straight...Rowand over Pujols??? Really, Tony?

i don't know how he could...
possibly be cheap...unless the yankees release him...i think he resigned w/ them last offseason for two years/23m
grow back the beard adam...it couldn't hurt

Living and Watching
here in NYC, he has become unable to put guys away.  Even when he hits his spots, he's getting hit fairly hard.

I listened to an interview with him on one of the Yankees' blogs, and he seems mystified.  I think it's a combination of not being able to amp it up with two strikes--he's only hit 90 a couple of times in the last three or four starts that I've seen--and getting crushed when he does miss.  He had a run of solid starts before the last three disasters, but they were against KC, the White Sox and a Cleveland team that I believe was slumping a bit at the time.  Even the "Solid" starts before that were barely quality starts: ie 6 inn. 11 hits, 3 ER against TB, July 15.

I like Mussina, always have from the time I lived in Baltimore during his (and my?) prime, but I think he's not going to significantly turn this slide around, and therefore should be a "pass."

NO NO NO GOD NO
Watched him pitch his last game...his career is over.  When he wasn't getting rocked his outs were loud.  No control, little movement, nothing but grapefruits.

No thanks
Mussina was once a really good pitcher, no doubt, and he never had what one could call electic stuff, but he got by on location, movement, and changing pitches like a slot machine.  Now he's gone from having average velocity (92 or so) to below average velocity (86 ish), less movement, and less stamina...I think the guy's had a good career, but he's done unfortunately.

Where did it all go wrong for Moose?
He seemed to have a pretty decent June this year.  I almost wonder if he has a serious shoulder injury.

Nothing Personal
But I can't stand watching games that he pitches.  He works so slow it is painful to watch.
Jimmy steps in to lead off the bottom half of the inning... with nobody on base... It could happen... just not tonight.

Why? The man is 39 years old.
If he can't help the Yankees, and they really don't have enough starting pitching, how can he help us?  The Yankees score a gazillion runs a game, and he can't keep the score close enough for them to win, we score about, well, almost none per game.  I see him as worse than any option we already have.
