Return of the captain?
I've seen it said in a few diffrent diarys so I thought I'd ask. Do you favor the return of what most of us considerd the captain Edger Rentria? I know most of you guys would welcome him back no problem because of what kind of year he's having, but what about the other guys on the team? I'll be honest I kind of thing of Edger as a trader after he went to boston. Let's be honest the money wasn't that much of a diffrance. What do you guys think?

Pelts
I'm sure Edgar would be welcomed back just fine. He choose to make more money, I don't think anyone thinks he is a traitor.

ahh...
Seems like he would bring a lot in return. $9 million for 2008 with the Sox picking up maybe a third of that, and an $11 million option in 2009 with what amounts to a free buyout. And he's posting a 131 OPS+ with decent defense.
The thing with Renteria is that he has these off years that seem to come out of the blue. I'd be opposed to sending out something like Reyes-Anderson-Low A prospect for the guy.

I think this is the sort of thing that matters
Also, how many guys left on the roster were even teammates of Edgar's? Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Izzy, Ankiel, and Molina are all that I count off of the top of my head without thinking too deeply.

I never did get the whole
Some Cards' fans got pissy b/c he said something like "Boston wanted him more than the Cards did." That was true -- Boston was willing to pay more so he was wanted more by Boston. So what?
I'm not sure we should bring him back, simply b/c of what it would take to do so, but to hold a grudge b/c he signed a contract with another team when he was able to do so is juvenile! Few of us are locked into our jobs forever and we would all look for better companies/jobs/etc., so why can't Edgar?

Renteria yes
I love Eck but consider me one that believes his days of everyday ss and multi-year deals are over. I'm not particularly interested in even having him back on a one year discount deal.
The ss FA market looks dim. I also am not keen on turning the keys(tone) over to a combo of Miles/Ryan/Kennedy....let those three fight it out for 2b, so
Bring back Edgar.....
He made a financially sound but nonsensical decision in taking his sensitive style to the toughest fans and media in the world. Bring him home. Tony knows how to get the best out of him.

Well...
Anyway, I'd like to have Renteria back for the right price seeing as how he's a top tier SS on both sides. The reason the Cards didn't resign him a few years back is because they had him at one value and the Sox had him at a much higher one...Simple as that. We ended up with a good player anyway, not as good, but good enough in Eckstein. I'm not going to sit around and pout that he didn't resign, nor am I going to call him a traitor...He's a good guy, and a good player, and he and the Cardinals made a sound business decision in parting ways.
