wheels turning ... Cards acquire Brian Barden

I like the idea of taking a flier on a kid who is still young but has scuffled in his one shot at the show. We clearly need more depth in the infield given Scott Rolen's health but I still think they need to play Brendan Ryan.
Who do you think gets the boot off the 25 man roster to add this kid? Might this be the final nail in the Juan E coffin? We'll have to send money with Juan E to dump him on another team. Given that Bernie speculated in his last blog post that a few teams were interested in Juan, I can only assume that means he cleared waivers already.

They guy has been pretty solid up until this year. He's not going to be much of anything for us this year, but it's nice to have another player who has been pretty solid in his career in our minor league system.
I believe at one point

This move is odd
He was DFA'd on August 3rd.
Today is August 13th.
A team has 10 days to trade, waive or release a player.
If not, the player can be outrighted to AAA and taken off the 40-man roster.
So, did the Cardinals get him AFTER he had cleared waivers and was now able to go to AAA without having his contract purchased? Was he claimed off waivers and now will have to be added to the roster (40 or 25 man)?
If so, why not wait 1 more day to get him?
I'm confused.

He's on the 40-man
Looks like Barden was passed up on the depth chart by the other 3B's in the organization. Looks like a really nice pickup. Hopefully his bat will come back now that he doesn't have ANYBODY breathing down his neck.
Pecota comparables
2005 flashback, woot! Let's do this thing.
So does anybody know where he's going to report?
Don't make too much
