Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

wheels turning ... Cards acquire Brian Barden

http://www.stltoday.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=475672&sid=823481887e206b0e5518ea3987df6282

I like the idea of taking a flier on a kid who is still young but has scuffled in his one shot at the show.  We clearly need more depth in the infield given Scott Rolen's health but I still think they need to play Brendan Ryan.

Who do you think gets the boot off the 25 man roster to add this kid?  Might this be the final nail in the Juan E coffin?  We'll have to send money with Juan E to dump him on another team.  Given that Bernie speculated in his last blog post that a few teams were interested in Juan, I can only assume that means he cleared waivers already.

with
the increasingly older team that we have, bolstering our farm is usually good news.

They guy has been pretty solid up until this year. He's not going to be much of anything for us this year, but it's nice to have another player who has been pretty solid in his career in our minor league system.

On with the youth movement!

I believe at one point
he was once consider a Top 50 prospect, no?
Call up PJ Walters!

This move is odd
not because they got the player, but how they got him.

He was DFA'd on August 3rd.
Today is August 13th.
A team has 10 days to trade, waive or release a player.
If not, the player can be outrighted to AAA and taken off the 40-man roster.

So, did the Cardinals get him AFTER he had cleared waivers and was now able to go to AAA without having his contract purchased?  Was he claimed off waivers and now will have to be added to the roster (40 or 25 man)?

If so, why not wait 1 more day to get him?

I'm confused.

Call up PJ Walters!

He's on the 40-man
And he's listed on the Memphis roster.

Looks like Barden was passed up on the depth chart by the other 3B's in the organization. Looks like a really nice pickup. Hopefully his bat will come back now that he doesn't have ANYBODY breathing down his neck.

Pecota comparables
One of his PECOTA comparables is Scott Seabol.

2005 flashback, woot! Let's do this thing.

So does anybody know where he's going to report?
With Spiezio out, you'd think he has a shot to join the big club, but if he cleared waivers, they might prefer he go to Memphis for a couple of weeks before rosters expand.

Don't make too much
I had something on this in my notebook today, but basically the guy is on the 40-man but not the 25-man. He was immediately optioned to Memphis. My read is he's depth at Memphis since Ryan won't be back before their season is over.

Thanks
Thanks for the post Matt but what I was wondering is who got removed from the 40 man roster.  Mulder and not Carp was moved to the 60 day DL and my question is why?  We think Mulder will be back sooner then Carp so why not put Carp on the 60 day?
