Pujols will participate in the HR Derby...

According to Derrick Goold. Normally i'd be against it, but let's face it, Pujols is already missing his homerun stroke, I doubt this will hurt it any more.

hopefully
instead of hurting his stroke will fix it, i mean people hitting home runs go and then stop hitting, well pujols isnt hitting them so maybe hee will come out of it and hit some dingers :) just some wishfull thinking.

That
is what I'm hoping for, too.

If his reasoning
behind it is just to get his HR stroke back, it's a big mistake on his part, IMO. I see it only hurting him in the long run.

Unless he feels like it is something
he wants to accomplish.  Remember, he should have won it in Milwaukee a few years ago.

As a NL first basemen, he has in his career an MVP, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, World Series and a ROY.  The only thing that someone like, Ryan Howard, has on him is the HR Derby title.

I guess.

Well
If there's a time for him to take a shot at it, it's now.

I'd rather him be swinging for the fences in the derby during a year that he's not hitting them than a year that he's on fire.

On with the youth movement!

i kinda agree..
but at the same time he still went deep 43 times in the '03 season when he was in the derby.  i guess in my mind, his power stroke can't get much worse right now so this could help

His Son or Grudge
The report is that Albert is doing it because his son wanted him to.  But I would think Albert could also have a grudge against Howard and Fielder for besting him in the MVP and All-Star vote.

I don't think Albert is that cocky or pretentious, but he does seek respect.

Not to be too contrarian...
but what evidence is there linking participation in the HR contest with 2nd half slumps?

What's the basis for all the hand-wringing?

Players who slump saying as much
it becomes a 'crutch' for players who slump afterwords.  For all the Abreus and Wrights of the world, there are the Howards and McGwires who are unaffected.
