Shields compared to Reyes

Read this about James Shields on the Rays Official site.  As discussed on this site, he and ol Anthony are similar pitchers (except when it comes to the little thing called repetoire).  Perhaps next year for Reyes will be similar to the way Shields is pitching now.  Though it probably will be with another team...

here's the excerpt:

Shields is aware that the word is out about his devastating changeup.

"I know these teams have the scouting report on me and these teams are looking for the changeup, they're sitting on changeup," Shields said. "I think the difference between this year and last year [is that] I've been able to throw my curveball for strikes -- and I throw a cutter now."

In his last outing against Cleveland, Shields said he threw just 14 fastballs out of 112 pitches.

"I threw a lot of cutters," Shields said. "And the reason was they weren't making the adjustment. I didn't want to change my game plan because they weren't hitting it. ... It's hard to really sit on one pitch when you're throwing four different pitches. I've never done that before. It was actually kind of weird."

jill
he hasn't been traded yet

can we lay off the doom and gloom whenever there's even a mention of Reyes.

Sure
I guess we could-I'm being a beeeitch  But they were quoted in the paper that they were looking to trade him.  Now I'll go home!

Where did you see that?
I don't remember anyone explicitly saying that they wanted to trade Reyes. All I've ever heard is that he's a big piece in the organization going forward. If they've changed their tune in that regard, could someone provide me a link?

I was on vacation last week, so missed out on a bit of news. Thought this one would have been more noticeable.

No, I don't have a link....
but when they ran a story about what they were contemplating what they were going to do with him, within the story it said they had explored the possibility of trading him.....it was in the post disapatch probably 2-3 different articles last week....so yes, it's safe to say they may be readying a trade....

they may be readying a trade
is a very, very different statement from

"he's pitched his last game in a Cardinal uniform"
or
"they're desperate to get him out of town"

I think people do sit on Reyes' changeup
so I think this is a really good comparison.  I do believe that Reyes either needs another pitch or needs to be able to throw that slurve thing consistently for strikes.  I just don't see why he can't learn w/ the big club!

Actually
That was the post I was remembering when I alluded to the two being compared here before.

Anthony is pitching tonight, and he's
struggling a bit, walks and homeruns a problem....score is 6-6. They're removing him now--well, I'd like to think he's not so sharp because he's had a long lay off and it sounds like from discription of the game he's working on different pitches--they said slider, curve, fastball, and change up. I don't know if it means anything or everything.....

Slider?
Oh, that's interesting.
