Fredbird Needs Help

I thought this might take some of our minds off what was a boring and mostly uneventful trade deadline.

Noticed this over at stlsportsmag.com. Apparently the site HomerDerby.com is polling the web to rate the best mascots, tournament-style (see: ESPN's moronic Who's Now?).

Fredbird is up against Ace, the Blue Jays new mascot in this round. Currently, the infamous head-chomping Fredbird is leading. But, those Canadians can get feisty and band together at a moment's notice (couldn't think of a clever instance of this happening, but... run with it).

Fredbird

is at 90%, so I predict a landslide. Y'know, I hated Fredbird for years--my longhaired thug friends and I used to chant "Wad-head, Wad-head" with no mercy at his every appearance in the bleachers back at Busch 2. But somewhere along the line, even though I have no kids, I've come to like the damn thing. Puts a smile on my face every time now. Getting soft in my dotage, I guess.

you can tell what Fredbird is supposed to be - a cardinal. That Blue Jay mascot barely looks like a bird. Vote Fredbird!

Cheapest mascot costume in the majors...

The only thing worse than wasting money on washed-up veterans is wasting it on mascot costumes. Hmmm...makes me wonder what Fredbird's salary slot is.
