Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Beginning of the end?

(WARNING -- Crazy thoughts about to begin)

Okay, now that's out of the way. With the firing of Jerry Narron, the door is now open for the rumors to start flying. I know the P-D did a story on WJ and his 'disinterest' in the Reds' GM job, but I can't help but think the three-headed beast of WJ, TLR, and Dunc could be brought in together somewhere.

Add in the fact that the Reds ownership group has a lot of St. Louis tie-ins, and it becomes almost believable. Yes, Cincy has a good GM now, but in today's era of baseball -- what have you done for me lately is the norm.

Star-divide

I feel a fire sale coming on soon with the Reds. Not a Marlins variety, but definitely a starting over fresh sale. Dunn was booed yesterday after horribly misplaying that ball in the outfield. It is almost as if he is begging to be a DH. Griffey probably won't ever have a first half this good again, and I'm sure Seattle or the baby bears could find a place for him.

The bullpen... well no, not likely that there will be any takers there, but Cincy does have some flexibility elsewhere. With Freel coming back from the DL and Hamilton looking like the real deal, La Russa might be ready for a new challenge. Duncan would have at least one or two good starters to work with, and Bailey is a talented young hurler.

Maybe it wasn't as crazy as I thought?

"Yes, Cincy has a good GM now"

That's where the crazy thoughts begin.

x2
krivsky has made some HORRIBLE moves.
I believe in the Sports Guy rule. Any "complaining" in this post is actually happy, cheerful "constructive criticism."

At least he did something
Most new GM's sit on their hands and wait. His moves haven't worked out for the most part (see Washington deal), but others have been a steal. Is he anywhere near the class of Walt or the other great ones -- hell no? But I would rather have a GM that tries than one that thinks about trying.

Dunc
"...and Bailey is a talented young hurler."

Sounds like a "talented young hurler" we have...ie: Reyes.

LaDunc have had one as such you speak of, and have managed to completely butcher him, imo.

Dont give up boys!

Also, Walt is under contract for 2008
so, I would hope that DeWitt would have been smart enough to get a 'no compete' clause in the contract that if Walt quit, he couldn't work in the NL Central, if not the entire NL during that year that his contract was for.

Thats if we give him a club option
I know the thing under everything I say says "what would walt jocketty do?" but I'm getting really tired of missing out in the off season, And yes I am also expecting a fire sale from the Reds but also the Astros, and possibly the Pirates fat chance Jason Bay stays in Pittsburg for long, even though he has a 4 year contract that ends after the 2009 season worth about $18.25M, some team hopefully the cardinals gets him out of Pittsburg

They already picked up his option
he is under contract for next year.  DeWitt has said he won't fire him, so Walt will have to quit to not be next year's GM.

Should have made it a two-headed story then...
I'm glad Walt is under contract for next year. As for LaDunc, that is another story. Just seems like there is no energy this year. The Cards go out and play Detroit tough, playing a 'hard 9' all three games, and then look pedestrian vs. the Reds at times.

I don't know about anyone else, but a change at manager might be my favorite off-season move come December.

Duncan
I've been discussing the likelihood of La Russa/Jocketty/and Duncan leaving after this season.  But a question about Duncan's willingness to depart stays with me.

Duncan has commented many times that he is very glad to be on the same team as his son as he was gone the majority of Chris' young life.  Duncan now has a legitimate reason to stick around with a club if La Russa departs.  Yeah, he's been with La Russa his whole career, but now he's with his son.  Which is more important to Dunc?

Are you suggesting we trade him to new york?

we were talking about
the elder Duncan possibly wishing to stay in St Louis despite TLR leaving, due to the fact that his son plays for the Cardinals.  Shelly Duncan is in the Yankees minor league system.  (I thought Eric Duncan, who is also in the yankees system, was related, but I was wrong).

Anyway it has been widely speculated that if TLR left STL, he might go to NYC.  I was pointing out that if TLR went to NYC, big Duncan might have a reason to follow.

Don't Panic!!!

Isn't Shelly Duncan (something like that)
his son, and in the yanks organization?
