Lets talk NEW coaches

This may be a bit premature.. I still don't think this season is lost.  If we put it together RIGHT NOW there's still a chance.

Anyway, let's pretend TLR is let go.  Who are your top choices for a replacement?

Personally, I'd like to see Jose Oquendo given the reigns.  He's a great baseball mind but I don't see him being so "old school" like TLR.  He seems like the type of guy that will actually smile every now and then and go crack a joke with a guy in the dugout.. not like the uptight dinosaur La Russa.  Also, it would help in bringing in other Domincan players.

2nd choice would be Joe Girardi.

For the record, I am a TLR supporter and have always backed him when others didn't.

Yes it is premature...
Someday TLR will move on.  Noone knows when but I do know that as soon as he leaves and the new manager makes a bad move everyone will miss TLR badly.

When the new guy fails to make a double switch, or a late inning defensive replacement, or just goes by the book instead of his gut we will all think back to the TLR years and realize what we lost.

I'm no TLR hater
but we'll also have moments when we won't miss him so much, when a reliever is left in for a full inning and actually does his job, or when a Chris Duncan type player is left in against lefties and learns to hit lefty pitching.

I don't know who would be a good fit,
but I'd prefer it not be Oquendo.  I think they should go outside the organization and get someone who has no preconceived notions about the players here.  Fresh set of eys, so to speak.

Going to throw a couple of names out here
Tony Pena...He did a pretty good job with a young Royals team several years ago, but was known to be a little "over the top" as well. Not sure he would be a good fit for the Cards, but he might be an interesting choice, plus he is a former and popular Cardinal.

Going with another former Cardinal here..
Andy Van Slyke, he would be another popular guy in St. Louis, but I don't think he has the experience YET to be a MLB manager, maybe in a couple more years.

A couple other guys off the top of my head..
Orel Hersheiser
Art Howe
Jerry Manuel
