cuban's cubbies..

new article this morning about cuban officially putting his name to buy the cubs. i hope he doesnt get them. i know we're talkin apples in oranges here, but he did take a shitty nba team and turned them around pretty damn quick. if you have somebody like him on top who is willing to spend $$, you will probably be pretty good. at the same time, the cubbies just spent 300 mil and look where it has them now..

Riensdorf will never let that sell
go through.

Can you imagine Cuban sitting in box seats and screaming at the umpire all game?  Selig, I'm sure, has nightmares about that.

Agreed...
I doubt Jerry will be too happy about the prospect of Mark controlling a team in Riensdorf's turf.  That I said I am kinda dissapointed for the game that Cuban won't be an owner.  I think when you boil it down, all he has wanted people in the NBA to do is be accountable: he asks it of his players; he asks it of the ref; he asks it of his fellow owners; and he asks it of the league.  I think he just gets on other owners nerves because he is very active in the operation of his team and it shows poorly on the hands off type of owner.

SO GLAD this will never happen
i feel bad for mark cuban, i'm actually a big fan of his and i think having someone like that in any organization is great for the organization in the long run. he may be abrasive, but he is smart, willing to challenge convention, and he speaks truth to power. the nba (and, clearly, the dallas mavericks) is better for him. baseball would be too. if cuban were an mlb owner, i can definitely see him learning all about sabermetrics and becoming the smartest owner in the game, in addition to being willing to spend money to win. the cubs would benefit tremendously and in 3 years would be a perennial contender.

i'm really, really glad reinsdorf, selig et al won't let this happen.

I believe in the Sports Guy rule. Any "complaining" in this post is actually happy, cheerful "constructive criticism."

I don't lik the idea of it being the Cubs
but I think it would be neat to watch him.  Baseball needs its very own rich crazy owner....he's energetic and would make everyone else crazy too.  Buy something far away and in another division, like the Tampa Bay Devil Rays....

Uh...
The Yanquis don't have a rich crazy owner?!

Yeah, we had that in the 70s
and somewhat with Teddy down in Atlanta.

I like that those days have passed and the product on the field (aside from steroids) is the major focus and not the Mark Cubans', Jerry Jones' and Al Davis' of the world.

As someone said on the radio today, all Bud Selig has to do is call David Stern to see what a headache Mark Cuban is.  Constantly acting like a child and making yourself the center of attention will bite Cuban in this instance.

Ted and George have been
so quiet lately.....time for a YOUNG rich crazy owner.

......hmmmm?
Is it true that Cuban promises to have the letter "M" legally added to the middle of his name if he gets the Cubs???

In case someone wasnt paying attention, it is indeed the "NL Central Division Cubs of Chicago" he's currently interested in and baseball has had at least 10 rich, crazy owners in its history last I checked....and I never noticed it made anybody else crazy except for the people that were fans of the club. He would pay Zito money tho!

"I don't need a damn number to tell me the guy's no good right now!" Old Casey.... Pitching, base running and defense!
