Traveling to STL for first game

Hey!  A friend and I will be making our first trip to the new Busch stadium for the DH against the Brewers.  We're driving from KC on Saturday morning, fairly early, and we are staying for both games.  So, I had some questions, and I would really appreciate any help in order to help us get around downtown STL as smoothly as possible.

  1.  Parking:  I'm looking for a spot to maybe do some tailgating, grilling, whatever.  Is there a good spot to do that?  For that matter, is it even allowed?  I'm used to going to games at the K, and I'm sure most of you know how open that area is around the park.  Also, how much will parking cost?
  2.  Around the stadium:  There will be some time to kill between games, so we are looking for a place to eat, as well as drink a few adult beverages.  Which bars down there would be best for some mid-20s guy looking to rock out in STL?  The cheapest beer bar hole-in-the-wall would be great, too.  We're just looking to have fun on our trip.
  3.  In the stadium:  Best stadium food?  Best stadium beers?  I'm assuming there is mostly A-B, but if there are any local microbrews to check out, which would you recommend?
We already have our tickets, so that isn't a concern.  I look forward to a long day of baseball on the 28th as it should be a good time.  Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

There are some bars close to the stadium, that I cannot for the life of my think of their names, but they are south of the stadium.  Park a little bit away and walk to the stadium and save 10 bucks.  No where is cheap, and they only sell AB products at Busch.  Your best bet is to grab some beer and get with it from a gas station then walk to the game and stop at one of those 3 or 4 bars on the walk up to the stadium.  That's if you park on the south side close to the Soulard area.

Have fun and there will be some better insight than this, I haven't been downtown in a while.

uh
Not entirely right on the beer.  Last I knew, they do sell Schlafly beers in a few select concessions around the stadium, I definitely don't remember where precisely but someone can probably speak up and let you know...right?
Now the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together...it's Arrested Development.

Paddy O's and Hrbosky's
Those two bars are basically stadium adjacent and good places for redbird atmosphere. As for at night, we went to the landing which is a few block walk from the stadium and a good place to party. When the bars closed we went over to the riverboat casino. Depending on what turns your gears, there's plenty to do within walking distance after/before the game.

For Parking
I highly recommend the Kiener East Parking Garage which is located on the corner of Broadway and Pine.  It's well within walking distance, close to tons of great resteraunts (including Charlie Gitto's in the previously linked post,) and if you park up on the roof, which is never crowded, there's plenty of space to grill and tailgate to your heats delight.  Best of all, it only costs $5 as opposed to the typical $10-$15 you'll pay anywhere else.  Hopes this helps.

k,
Well first I would not park in a parking garage.  I would find a open lot.  The reason for this is cause if you park ina garage you will be stuck in there for quite some time trying to get out after the game.  There are plenty of places.  I would say it will cost ya around 15 bucks.  but since it is the weeekend it could cost ya 20.  You can drink all ya want in the parking lot.  In fact i would suggest to atleast have a few befor entering cause a beer is 8.50 a piece.  Oh and always buy your beer from one of the beer vender stands where they sell the 24 oz. beers.  If you go to a regular food stand you pay 8.00 bucks for a 16 oz.  Just one of the many ways busch will get ya.  Anyways but as far as bars.  Paddy's o's is right outside the homeplate entrance and you can see hrabowski's from there also.  they have good food for cheap. Hrabowskis kind of looks like a old warehouse.  but since you guys are in your 20's and maybe looking for ladies i would suggest shannons.  It is a little pricer just to warn you but the scenery can be very nice.  It is in the direction of the outfield.  It has big green neon lights.  anyways but I hope this helped a little.  I may have just confused you more.  If you guys are still in the mood far partying after that.  I suggest washington street or soulard.  Im not a big fan of the landing. Good luck

Parking on Market
is free at night/on the weekends. I normally park across the street from the ol' city hall, kind of by Kiel. I never understood paying for something which is free only a few blocks further.
Boooo-urns.

take it from another 20something w/ season tix
come in hwy 40, get off on the broadway exit, and park in the lot right in between paddy's and killroys for Tailgating.  It's $15 which is high, but the very best to tailgate & you are right in the heart of the action.  This is all directly south of the stadium.

I would hit your car full of beer in between games and then you can hit paddy o's, Al's, and killroys if need be for in between partying.

After the game or anytime you're looking for tail;  go to mike shannon's.  hottest ass and a great place to party after the games.

*If you are looking for the most drunken fun...Paddy O's will be your place.  they have decent food too.

Good food down there
It may sound dumb, but there is a really good hot dog vendor down across from the stadium.  It's like T-Dawgs or something like that.  It's across from the right field entrance to the stadium, just under Highway 40.  My wife and I went for the Cards/Royals series and ate for $10 before getting into the stadium.  Then we ate (MUCH LESS) for about $10 more once we got it - it was a 14 inning game...we got hungry again! :)

at risk of sounding like your parents here....
if you're planning on pounding a few beers, you might wanna think about taking Metro Link to the game... will save you money & aggravation re: parking and the train stops right outside the stadium.

you also can take to it several after the game nightspots, including the Central West End.

Agreed.....
Metrolink is the way to go.  Its cheap, its easy, and you can drink at a better bar before the game.

Thanks for the help
I'm going to have to get a good detailed map.  I found one on the Cards website that should help.  I'll check back later to see if anything else pops up.  Thanks again!
