Cardinals close to signing Percival???

Here's the link from Rosenthal, who's just about the best in the business nowadays...
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6901918

What do you all think Walter is doing with this move? The bullpen's been really good so far.. Could Franklin be moved? Looper? Could the trade of a starter be far off?
Should be interesting whatever happens. Depth is always good with pitchers, especially with trade time looming...
Maybe Dunc thinks he can teach Troy the 2-seamer & Tony will put him in the rotation...

If anyone is going into the rotation
it's Franklin and not Percival.

Percival has been a closer (or 8th inning guy) his entire career.

Of course, so was Looper. But I think Percival is a little long in the tooth to be used more than one inning.

This is pretty interesting, though...

RE: If anyone is going into the rotation
I was kind of joking about the whole 2-seamer thing.. sorry..

Figured you were...
but sometimes it's hard to tell. No worries.

I didn't mean to come across like a know-it-all either...because I certainly don't. :)

FWIW
Troy Percival's ZiPS projection:
5.45 ERA
(5.92 R/9)
1.66 HR/9
2.61 BB/9
4.74 K/9
8.76 H/9

Izzy's Replacement
Perhaps we're seeing a bit of wishful thinking on the Cards' part here.  Assuming a return to form for Percival, this would make Izzy very expendable in the upcoming trade window running through the deadline.

Also, Percival is, as earlier stated, a bit long in the tooth.  Perfect to step down in a year or two when one of our plethora of minor league relievers shows he has the stuff to be our stopper.  Izzy will most likely be searching for at least one more deal of 2 years+

Now, I have no problem with Izzy's performances here this year.  I am very pleased with him, something I cannot remember feeling previously.  However, he could bring us the prospects we so need.  Not to mention clear $10 million of payroll.

Just food for thought.

Don't sell the farm~

I have no problem with
acquiring him; but does it not seem like a desperation move?  I mean he's been out of basebell a few years, and I wouldn't expect too much.  I would hate to see Izzy go, but he's one of the few players we have that another team might want.
