I've been thinking about Boras's comments last week re the Cards and Jeff Weaver. How has Jeff Weaver not fired the guy yet? First, 2 offseasons where he waited til after the market was dead to get him signed, and now this.
Those comments make sense only if 2 things are going on:
- Weaver is pitching well
- The Cards are struggling
At this point in Jeff Weaver's career, you'd think that Boras wouldn't be burning any bridges with respect to Weaver's future. So, why's he going out saying stuff that will basically ensure that the only team that might possibly want him back now won't take him back under any circumstances? It's like Weaver's drowning and Boras is steering away the only ship that might save him. Maybe I'm a little confused about what an "agent" is supposed to do, but eliminating your best possible chance to fix your career doesn't seem to be it.
