I know, I know...not against Brandon Webb. 0-11 and all that jazz. However, if the Cardinals are serious about Reyes 'impressing' and not being sold on demoting him, the logical thing to do is to have him pitch Monday. Why, you ask? To bump Braden Looper back 1 day.
The rotation currently is set up:
Sat - Wainright
Sun - Maroth
Mon - Looper
Tues - Wellemeyer/Reyes
Wed -
Thur -
Fri -
Sat -
Sun -
The most logical way of solving this problem is below:
Sat - Wainright
Sun - Maroth
Mon - Reyes (normal days of rest)
Tues - Looper
Wed - Thompson
Thur - Wainwright
Fri - Maroth
Sat - Reyes
Sun - Looper
This allows them to use Reyes twice before the All-Star Break, and then gives them a week to figure out 'what to do with him'.
To solve the problem, you short the bench. You either a) DL Scott Spiezio or b)Send Skippy down for the final 2 days of the All-Star Break.
To make the roster move work, Reyes would start on Monday, be demoted Tuesday when Looper is activated to make his start and then call him back up when you send Skippy down or you DL Spiezio on Saturday.
I'm not the worlds biggest Reyes cheerleader, but this makes too much sense (ie Reyes starting before Looper is activated) that not doing it is dumb.
