A Team Worth Watching...

I am a life long Cards fan and want to submit my view on what would make the Cards a team worthy of watching.  Looking at the starting lineup on Monday vs. the Mets I thought - jeez - I can have the Cards on in the background but this lineup is absolute crap!  With that in mind...

For this diary - I am going with no rules - plausible trades and anyone in AA or above can be called up - I am also not taking into consideration how "future development" might be hindered...  So my new roster would be...

Star-divide

Lineup vs. RHP

  1.  RF - Rasmus
  2.  C - Anderson
  3.  1B - Pujols
  4.  LF - Duncan
  5.  3B - Rolen
  6.  CF - Edmonds
  7.  2B - Greene/Spezio
  8.  SS - Miles/Eckstein
Lineup vs. LHP
  1.  SS - Eckstein
  2.  3B - Rolen
  3.  1B - Pujols
  4.  LF - Stavinoha
  5.  RF - Marti/Duncan
  6.  C - Molina
  7.  CF - Rasmus
  8.  2B - Greene
OK - by my count that would be 13 position players...  I've got 6 OF three middle infielders and 2 catchers...  I think that's about right.

SP

  1.  Chris Carpenter
  2.  Adam Wainright
  3.  Mike Maroth
  4.  Jaime Garcia
  5.  Anthony Reyes
RP
  1.  Closer - Troy Percival
  2.  Setup - Chris Perez
  3.  Setup 2 - Franklin
  4.  Lefty 1 - Flores or Cate
  5.  Lefty 2 - TJ
  6.  ROOGY - Worrell or Sillman
  7.  Long Relief/Spot Start - B. Thompson
Players traded:
  1.  Encarnacion and $2M for a bag of pretzels
  2.  Bennett released
  3.  So retired suddenly
  4.  Izzy to some team for a B- prospect
  5.  Looper and Springer to some team for a C- prospect
  6.  Mulder to challenge for a spot in 08
  7.  Kennedy and $10M to the mexican league for a pink elephant pinata
I left out Ankiel for fun, but if you were to make this exercise a little more realistic you might switch Rasmus and Ankiel - still fun to watch.

I am a bit of a space cadet, but with this team on the field I wouldn't be writing a weird diary instead of watching the game...

This one stood out
Kennedy and $10M to the mexican league for a pink elephant pinata.

Heck if they could take Kennedy off our hands they can keep the pinata.

OK OK
I can tell I have great ideas as four out of five voters so far have gone with lay off the crack rock and guess who voted in favor of my idea...!!!???

Fine - I'll take Mather instead of Marti.  He has a 1000+ OPS against LHP!

Yes but...
He did ride into America on a sharks back and promptly eat the shark and kept the teeth to remind him of his journey.  That still means something to me...

Sounds like a good roster but it will take
3 years at the least for everyone to develope properly

Rasmus isn't a right fielder..
He's a centerfielder who's very fast with a rocket arm.. stick Jimmy Baseball in right.
Please don't make Amaury Marti bat 5th??????

How about this:
  1. This is a longshot.  Scott Rolen, Brad Thompson and Tyler Herron to the Orioles for Brian Roberts.  The Orioles REALLY need bullpen help and Scott Rolen could stick with the Orioles for a couple years while Bill Rowell (their 3rd baseman of the future) eases into the role.
  2. Trade Jon Jay, Jarrett Houfpauir, trade and eat some Juan Encarnacion and David Eckstein's salary for IF Asdrubal Cabrera and RP Tom Mastny from the Indians.  Indians currently have Mike Rouse playing shortstop.
  3. Trade Izzy to D-Backs for 3B Chad Tracy
  4. Leaves us needing another SP.. Trade Anthony Reyes and Brendan Ryan for Jason Jennings..
  5. 2B Brian Roberts (.300-20-65)
  6. CF Rasmus (.275-20-80)
  7. 1B Pujols (.325-45-130)
  8. LF Duncan (.270-30-110)
  9. 3B Chad Tracy (.275-20-75)
  10. C Molina (.260-10-50)
  11. RF Stavinoha/Ankiel/Whoever (.260-15-55)
  12. SS Asdrubal Cabrera (.280-10-50)
  13. P
SP) Carpenter
SP) Maroth
SP) Wainwright
SP) Jason Jennings
SP) Garcia

CP) Percival
SU) Perez
MRP) Springer
MRP) Cate
LRP) T. Johnson
LRP) Tom Mastny
LRP) (Kinney, Sillman, whoever)

Is that serious?
Anthony and Brendan for Jason "If You Want Mediocre, I'm Your Man" Jennings?  No thank you.

Jason Jennings
Last night his line went:

7ip 5h 3er 6k 3.69era (season)

which brings his record to a 1-3 standing.  At least it was a quality start.  Doesnt sound like much, but after all, he pitches for the Astros.  Last I checked, they are a worse offense than we are.

He has started 9 games this year, but has lasted only 53 1/3 innings.  Which averages out to almost 6 innings/start.  With some of the painful pitching weve seen this year....welcome aboard!

Dont give up boys!

Woops, forgot to stick Jim Edmonds in there..
Edmonds would bat 6th, Molina 7th..

On the bench we'd have Spiezio, Bennett, Ankiel, Schumaker and Miles I guess

LOL
Lay off the crack rock is winning by a landslide.
Pitch to swing and misses...not contact. I've never heard of a "seeing eye K"
