Weaver throws 4-hit shutout

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=270620112

I know it's the Pirates, but the man had an 0-6 record with 9.75 ERA and a 2.03 WHIP coming into the game.

Does he just tank on purpose at the beginning of each year? Is he high? There has to be some kind of rational explanation for this.

I guess his trade stock just went from 'junk' to 'don't buy'. Another good start and he'll be up to 'risky'.

Drat
I was hoping he would keep losing, and the Cards could add him to form the three-headed 10+ lose monster. Wait, that wasn't very funny. Hmmm, moving on...

Boras
What I think is surprising is that Weaver even considered signing with an AL team, or even an AL West team, after his terrible run with Anahiem.  Weaver, it seems, really needed some time in a less competitive hitting climate to get his pitching right.  This might have been true ever since he went to the Yanks.  Coming to the Cards would have been a great way for him to settle in, but Boras had Weaver chase the cash and head out West.  He got the same contract with the M's that he got last year and has put up numbers that are worse than he had with the Halos.

Another great Boras contract is JD Drew's current contract with Boston.  Great purchase, Theo.

Weaver had the same stuff last night as all year
I caught the post-game show for the Mariners last night.  The radio guys didn't praise Weaver so much as highlight the fact that his stuff last night was the same stuff he's been throwing all year long.  The Pirates were impatient and swinging at high breaking balls (according to them, I never saw the game) and made it easy for Weaver.

I'd say this is more an anomoly of small sample size than an indication of his potential.  Bad pitching trumped a mediocre (or awful?) offense this night.
