bryan anderson

this kid is absolutely raking, he is 20 years old and already batting .315 at AA. If he continues to perform like this for the rest of the year and into next is there a chance that he could force out Yadier? For the cardinals this is an excellent problem to have, i'm just wondering if anyone has any opinions on what will happen.

My opinion
The kid can obviously play, but the solution for now is no-solution, you have to hold on to them both. First off, it is becoming clearer and clearer that we have to play for '08 so this is a non-issue this year as we shouldn't even think about trading him. Next year however, I'd think the best solution would be to actually do what Molina did with Matheny; be the play-more-than-the-average-backup backup and see if he can rake at the big league level.  Not only would you have a legit pinch hit threat, you'd have a free backup catcher who is starting quality, and you'd be getting a 21 year old his feet wet in the bigs.  If he proves he can rake and play good defense, then we have a "problem".  But that's a lot of 'ifs' off.

Yeah,
it'd be nice to have the backup catcher spot not be wholly defenseless at the plat, but rather, be an asset

i agree
right now he needs to prove himself. and if yadi keeps hitting like he has been u might want to keep yadi and trade anderson

Defense
How is his defense?  I heard it was very unspectacular.

He has a cannon...
for an arm, but can't block balls in the dirt very well.  His passed balls total this year is close to 10.

positions?
possibility of changing positions?

No
Lunhow himself said that he was staying at catcher.   I watch him quite a bit in Springfield and I think the bad defensive rap is undeserved.  He had quite a few passed balls when he first came up to double A but lately he has been doing a really good job of blocking the plate.  Don't forget he's not catching established veterans, they don't exactly have the best command down here.  (see Chris Perez)

Also
Petcota has comparable players including Brian Mccann, Jarred saltalamacchia and even joe mauer breaking into the top fifteen.   Give him time to develop, he will have tremendous value in the future in if he continues to develop at this rate.

goodness
wouldn't it be lovely to not have the likes of Stinnet and Bennett as backups for once.
