More on TLR's arrest

This from Steve Rosenbloom's blog in the Chicago Tribune:

"There was more to the Tony La Russa drunk-driving arrest in spring training than just a drunk-driving arrest. Such as two lawmen preparing "a dazed-and-confused La Russa for jail by teaching him gang signs" and a group of laughing cops discussing how to "scare" the "person snoring inside by pushing their faces against the windows and banging loudly." All caught on camera--a camera in the dash of a police car."

Wow
That's some crazy shite. Wonder if TLR will okay using it to try to get out of the whole situation or just take his well-deserved lumps. Regardless of the officers' ridiculous behavior, he was still driving drunk, passed out cold, and lucky to not have caused some kind of accident. Will he stand up, admit his mistake, and take his punishment like a man or use the system to try to wiggle free by shifting the focus of the case to the officers' behavior and history? I'll have much more respect for him if it's the former.

cops suck
Tony won't do jack. He is to smart for that. Why bring up the entire situation again and plaster this supposed video all over local and national news? Its' a very embarassing situation for Tony who I'm sure would rather pay the fine, do the community service and focus on winning the central!

Cops Suck?
Let's generalize some more shall we?

Cops have one of the hardest jobs in America... they deal with our country's biggest scumbags on a daily basis.  They get shot at and are constantly disrespected.  Rappers make songs about killing them..

What do I think?  So what if they had some fun with a drunken moron (yes, in this particular situation, TLR is a complete moron).  I say embarass the hell out of every person who gets a DUI.  Make them get naked, put clown makeup on them, and make them parade around town with a beer bottle up their ass.

Yes, there are some bad cops.. people that have no business being police officers.. but there are bad accountants, construction workers, and engineers too.  Once again, people want to make the police out to be the bad guys.

While I agree
with your assessment of cops having one of the hardest jobs in America (and thus deseve mucho more respect than they sometimes receive), it's ridiculous to say "so what if they had some fun with a drunken moron." They are supposed to be professionals who take their jobs seriously. And most do. But this is exactly the kind of behavior that leads to disrepect and could possibly end up with perpetrators being let off the hook. Chances are TLR won't want to dredge up the whole thing in a bid to evade punishment, but someone of no celebrity certainly might--and might be successful. Cops deserve our thanks and respect, but when a few decide to act like a bunch of schoolboys on a power trip, it sadly makes them all look bad. They are the trusted authority with badges and guns--childish pranks are a betrayal of that trust and authority.

Your right
I was out of line with the "so what" nonsense.  I guess my point is, even if the cops were out of line, I don't have sympathy for people who get DUI's.

TLR
id have to say that you are right in the sense that tony shouldn't do anything about the situation, but cops suck?  thats pretty harsh. they pretty much work the hardest out of anyone in the country. that still doesn't give them the right to harass people though

Tony is a very smart man
he find a way to deal with it, i'm not saying he needs to get out of the Dui or he doesn't deserve it but, yeah i'm just gonna shut up now, i lost my place in what i was saying

Not near as hard as the military
and they still have more authority than we do.  That's a bunch of crap.  They can't do their jobs unless we've already done ours.  Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing our law enforcement but when they have have to go overseas and do what we do, spend that long away from family and friends, then come home and get jacked around by an asshole cop after being home less than 24 hours for having fog lights on in town.  Well you all get my point I better just shut up.

Hmm
ive never understood why the military and police see each other as "rivals."  Same with Police and Fire Fighters.  Aren't they all on the same team?

Anyway.. a large percentage of police officers used to be in the military.

It's not just cops though man.. you could go to the grocery store and have some jerk teenage bagger give you an attitude, or some road rage driver flip you the bird...

CALM DOWN
"Cops Suck" was just a general (NOT SERIOUS)statement....it wasn't intended to spark a conversation about if cops suck or not.....it's a JOKE fella....sounds like maybe you're a cop or at least f'n one. . .
