memphis @ round rock
headed out to round rock this evening to catch the redbirds while they were in town. not a particularly great night, on the verge of storming the entire time, but on the whole a decent night...
anyway, here's what i can comment on prior to my 5th bud heavy...
- keisler: this dude drove me nuts. he sulks more than any other player i've ever seen, and that is not a stretch. he gave up a ton of seeing-eye hits and a lot of hard hit balls. i really think his problem is his mentality. flat out just not good stuff.
- ankiel: took some decent cuts but really didnt make any good contact. think his little injury might have him off a bit. looked sincerely happy to be back playing, however
- ryan: really didn't do much at the plate but made some really, really, REALLY nice defensive stops. i can think of at least 3 that PROBABLY could have made the web gems.
- hanson: dude hit a rope of a homerun...
- gonzales: he goes about his ab's very professionally as far as i can tell. just gets up there, makes the pitcher work, and waits for his pitch. didn't have much success, unfortunately.
first diary - out.

Made it to the game as well
- Tagg came back but was definitely running at half speed
- Lambert was dominant in his two innings of work. Not running up the radar gun but through his fastball consistently in the 91-93 range and absolutely hosed the round rock hitters (including Chris Burke for that matter) on change ups. Lots of swings and misses on the change up. He might make it yet.
- Parisi is a fighter that's for sure. He could reach back and throw 93 but I'd describe his stuff as unremarkable. he will have to work to make it as a fifth starter in the pro's. It would be interesting to see if he had more velo in a relief role.
- Buncha nice guys - Nick Stavinoha through a ball he made a helluva nice catch on Friday night to a girl seated right in front of me (maybe 8 years old). John Rodriguez was making conversation with an 11 year old kid next to me who wanted to trade his BBQ set (the giveaway that day) for a baseball. Troy Cate was hanging out tossing balls into the stands.
- My brother came with me Friday night and thought that when my dad and I were saying "can of corn" we were saying unicorn so next popfly and everyone thereafter we heard "unicorn". We just went along with it. pretty fun stuff all in all.
- Ankiel seemed eager to show off his arm with one throw home with three outs from CF and one throw from mid CF halfway up the net past home plate (can you say air mail!). No harm no fowl as the 3B coach held the runner on the second throw, but he was close to throwing it into the stands...
