Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

On an unrelated note

What's with all the negativity on VEB nowadays? Everywhere I look someone is giving someone else a put-down or throwing out a derogatory comment to another member of the VEB community. So, I guess my question is why? Frustrated by the Card's struggles, work or school? Head over to the P-D boards and duke it out with other people you don't know from Adam, not here. If you feel this didn't deserve a diary, I'm sorry, but I felt I had to post this because I hate to see VEB this way.

Really?
I'm not sure what you are referring to.  I thought we all played together nicely.  Everyone is frustrated, but I don't see anyone taking it out on the others.  Just last night I thought how great it was that people were discussing things without YELLING AT ONE ANOTHER IN CAPITAL LETTERS and questioning the other person's sanity, baseball knowledge or upbringing.  As a long-time reader, but relatively new poster, I always thought this was one of the most civilized and thought provoking fan sites around.  That's my take anyway.

I have noticed....
The past week especially. I really chalk it up to frustration. The team is playing poorly and has everyone on edge.

A couple of prime examples are.....

Someone posted a comment re: Larry's non-use of capitalization. The post was very respectful, and simply offered a suggestion, and it was replied to in a very negative/defensive manner. (I don't know how to link to it, but I believe it was in Monday or Tuesday's main thread)

Also, The diary above regarding a possible trade of Rolen. The diary was somewhat confusing, but the first two comments are very negative toward the author. Why not just ask for clarification?

Anyway, I enjoy coming to this site daily. I think we need to remember that there are actual people behind each post, and there is no need to criticize. Hopefully the Cardinals will just start playing better and put and end to the frustration.

Disclaimer: I am not judging anyone that may have left one of the "negative" posts I believe the authors usually offer some very valuable information.

i think it's been pretty mellow
especially given how terrible the team has played. in my opinion, we haven't come close to the level of hostility that was reached at times last season. have i just become deaf to it?

Last year
had some stretches much worse; game threads were pretty much NC-17. I think for a blog w/ mostly anonymous commentators, things are still pretty civil around here. Especially considering the team we're discussing.
Everybody off the bandwagon!

This site
is on my "several times a day" list for at least two reasons:
  1. The analysis available here (both from lboros and many of the posters) is simply outstanding... while I have watched and broadcast literally thousands of baseball games, I lack the statistical skills to parse what I'm seeing. (I'm more a "scout" than a "seamhead"... so the sabermetric stuff opens new avenues to understanding the game for me.)
  2. By and large, VEB remains a community of Cardinal fans. Individuals will always disagree on at least some points, but (for the most part) these disagreements remain reasonably polite.
I don't usually follow the game threads for logistical reasons... my computer is in a different room than either of the two TVs! (I do, however, talk to the players and announcers during the games... whether there's any Actual People with me or not!) I can certainly understand why some VEBers "vent" their frustrations.

All in all, though, I see fewer "flamers", "trolls", and "thread-killers" at VEB than anywhere else I visit in Web-land... keep up the good work, gang!

It's a beautiful day for a ballgame!

I agree
VEB is very well "policed", if  you will, and has mostly mature people. However, perhaps it's just me, I've been seeing more of it lately.
