ESPN article on Supps and Marquis

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=2871894&lpos=spotlig ht&lid=tab5pos1

Check out this article rating the various free agent pitchers from last off-season.  We really could have held onto Suppan, he's much better than Wells.  Even when Carp was healthy, the GM and ownership could have ponied up some more money.

Too Early
I think it's too early to judge Suppan at this point. The money Milwaukee gave him was crazy. I'm glad the Cards didnt pony up that kind of cash. I think this deal will really look bad in years 3 and 4 if not sooner!

Unless Supp' can play the outfeild and put up
an .850 ops, I don't think he'd help us much.  As for Wells versus Suppan, I'm unsure you can make a salient coomparison given their respective team's offensive differences.  Call me unsabermetric if you want, but I am inclinded to believe are pitching woes (Wells, and Wainer) have alot to with with confidence about run support.

Don't forget
Jorge Sosa is carrying an ERA of 2.00 and has only given up 1 hit through 5.

He's only thrown about 20 innings so far and this may very well be his first start.

I just thought it was interesting that this guy is so awful and is now throwing miraculously.

Go figure.

I'm not even going
to read the article because I can already picture exactly what it says, in my head.

Marquis is the luckiest pitcher in the NL thus far. His ERA is a complete mirage.

As for Suppan, I guess it's possible that, compares to their career numbers, his nearly halved walk-rate is sustainable, or that Wells is going to give up 40% more homers this year, walk 5/9 and allow 45% of baserunners to score. But my money's on their respective FIPs ending up right at about 4.8 where their career numbers suggest --- and of course the point is that Kip Wells comes for 1/10th the cost.

OK, I just
RTFA. Anecdotes, W/L record, and ERA. Snore.
