Carp to miss next start

According to stltoday.com, Carp "experienced tightness" in his elbow, and was examined by Paletta today.  No word on the seriousness of the condition, so hopefully it's just precautionary.  No need to risk him when we haven't even made it through a full rotation yet.

There's a lot of chatter about it on Cards Talk already, but nobody seems to have any additional info.

I heard it on the news
They said it wasn't serious and Tony didn't seem too worried. But on April 3rd you need to be overly cautious. I also heard that Scott Spiezio's back is "barking" according to Tony and he won't get the start tonight and Edmonds is said to be "inning by inning".

I'm not sure I can take a lot of this
Edmonds is hurting, Juan is out and replaced by Wilson and So; Izzy's a question mark, Mulder's out -- I don't know how much more tolerant I can be!

I guess we probably expected Carp to miss a start or two.  He was on the DL last year.  But it's a little early for this crap!  This team's age and vulnerability to injury is going to test its depth!

If it comes down to depth
I'm not so sure the Cards would finish near the top...

No need to panic
...yet.  Bears close watching as we may get to see what some of these youngsters can do a little osoner than we expected.

Eh.... not good.
I'm not that concerned about Carp's pitching, as he had a strong spring and the Mets always hit him well, but we need to be running him out there as often as possible. Of course, protecting our investment is key, but I'm not happy to hear this so early in the season...

I'm very concerned that they aren't doing an MRI
they just signed Carp to a 5 year extension -- isn't an MRI worth preventing the problem from being exacerbated???

This could turn out very badly and quite frankly, Paletta and the medical team should be closely scrutinized for the choices they make in the near future.

It sucks that his elbow hurts, it's not good for our chances, it's not necessarily the end of the world but let's not trot him out there like we did Mulder if he's hurt.

I agree...
an MRI would be a smart move...

Cross your fingers
and hope that Paletta knows something. I don't think he would be that irresponsible to overlook something like that.

This may be getting ahead of ourselves,
but who's starter #6 in case Carp--or anyone for that matter--is out for awhile?  It is someone from the bullpen (Thompson or Franklin), or one of the guys in AAA?

I would think it'd have to be someone from the bullpen.  The guys in AAA either need more time (Hawksworth and Narveson) or are AAAA guys (the rest of the rotation).  Maybe Keisler would be a reasonable option, but I don't know.
