NL Central Champion--below .500?

Watching the NL Central standings, I get the feeling that the champion of the division could end up below .500 at the end of the season.  Seems that, with the schedule tilted towards division teams, that each club is taking turns kicking the tar out of the other, therefore the records are currently standing at around .500.

Your thoughts?  My take is, even if that happened, I wouldn't be too concerned because, much like last year, the NL Central champ would be overlooked, and could go on a tear in the playoffs.

Very doubtful
If we're not careful, the Brewers could end up runnning off with the division and winning it by 10-12 games.  I still think the Cards will be there at the end, but the Brewers are definitely good enough to end up w/ 85-86 wins at a minimum.

No
I don't see it happening. The reason all of these teams all have such similar records is because all we've been doing is beating up on each other. Once we beging playing more divisions, things will change.
On with the youth movement!

Yes, I agree
The NL Central champs might be the first with a sub .500 record.  But I wouldn't be on it as too many things would have to go wrong.  I could see a finish like last year with only a single team above .500, but its hard to imagine a repeat.

This sounds like...
sour grapes to me. The Cards are headed for 70 wins therefore it would be nice if everyone else was crappy too.

The Cubs and Brewers should easily reach 81 wins and the Astros will be right around that mark depending on Jennings health. The Cubs and Brewers flat have more talent then the Cards this year and it's because their owners are willing to mortgage the future for the present.

My preference would have been that we do a little mortgaging as well, but I understand why you don't give Soup $40 million. Seems to me when you have the chance to repeat and squeeze one last run out of the MV3 core, you mortgage a little...

The MV3
is now the MV2.  Jeff Suppan would not have saved this team anyway.  I am of the opinion that the Cardinals really need to reload.  The problem is that they really have no one to deal.  I have a hard time seeing A'Pu or Sco'Roo being dealt.  Vets like Edmonds, Eck and Kennedy have little to no value.  Young guys like Wainer and A-Rey probably won't fetch what they are worth until they at least live up to some of their potential.

The only guy I see being tradable currently is Looper and I doubt too many people are believing his Cy Young act just yet.

Tricky
Look at this team and think about it. It is very likely to look like this for next year too. Every starting position player except Eckstein has a contract for next year. The rotation looks like Carp, Mulder, Wainright, Reyes, and Looper for next year. If this team really is this bad, it may be this bad for a couple of years. The only really tradeable guys are ones we can't spare. Walt will really have to be magical to improve this roster if the current guys don't step it up.
How about handin' me another helpin' of those mashed taters...thank you very much!
