Troy Cate

I do believe he still has options left.  Why can't we let Keisler go and bring up TC?  His numbers last year and this year are just great.  He had a 1.27 ERA last year and abot a 4:1 K/BB ratio.  He's holding the same control so far this year with a 0.76 ERA through 13.1 ip.  Correct me if I am wrong but he did excel in winter ball didn't he?  I haven't seen him pitch but with the control he seems to have and being a lefty how long will he have to stay in Memphis?  What kind of velocity and pitches does he have?  Any information would be appreciated.  It seems to me he's just kind of flying under the radar and putting up big time numbers.

Who would start if Cate comes up?
On the milb page, it looks as if Cate is in a relief role, with his max innings pitched in a game standing at 5.  And he's pitched in back to back games recently.

I don't see Cate as a candidate for starter if the milb page is correct.

2006 World Champs! Inconceivable! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

He was a starter
In the Mexican winter league. Regularly threw 7 innings, pitched extremely well. I'm too lazy at the moment to link his stats/performances, but it should be easy enough to look that up.
Everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time.

Start for Cate
Was this on the schedule, or did he get moved into a start after watching Keisler last night?

tonight was supposed to be
mike parisi's turn in the rotation, but parisi stunk his last time out ---- 6 walks in 4+ innings.

interesting development

better option
Would be to bring up Narveson, who pitched a complete game his last outing.  Has a WHIP of 1, and a has struck out 26 in 27 IP.

options
narvy is out of options meaning if he would have to clear waivers to return to memphis.  he passed through waivers this spring but if he pitches well i am not certain he would clear again.  if carp or someone else were out for an exteneded period i would be more inclined to go with narvy.  if its just another start or two i would stick with keisler or some other AAA guy with options.

sorry for repeating myself from the game thread
but if anyone wanted to know cate has made a start already this season, (the 15th, he pitched 5 innings of 3 hit ball) it's not a huge surprise that he's starting. that rotation isn't quite settled yet as no one has seized a spot, i don't think it's an audition for a spot in the big league rotation. i could be wrong.

stuff
from what i've read, he has an average fastball 88-90 mph range, a sinker, and a good curve.
