MIGGY?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/04/miguel_cabreras.html

Miguel Cabrera to the Cards? Imagine that 1-2 punch... that could help our hitting woes.

I'll be dreaming too, but it ain't happening
"I don't think the Cards have the players for a trade."

And that says it all.

We would have to trade at least 4 of the following to even come close to get Miggy:
C. Rasmus, C. Duncan, J. Garcia, A. Reyes, A. Wainwright, B. Anderson, A. Ottavino

Also, do you really think the Marlins care where Cabrera wants to play?

I mean we could get him after the 2009 year, when he becomes a free agent and commands 200M but we all know the Cardinal organization is cheap so that ain't happening either.

a better way to put it....
I'm not really into calling the Cardinals cheap, when they're in St. Louis, basically a mid-market in comparison to most of the MLB teams, and the fact that they're 11th in total salary at 90M.

6 of the teams ahead of them are the 2 from NY, 2 from Chicago, and 2 from LA, along with Boston for a 7th.

So really, among teams with at least some economic limits put on them by their markets, St. Louis is behind only Seattle, Detroit and Baltimore.

Incidently, should the Cardinals have serious interest when he were to be a free agent, Rolen would be coming into the end of his contract(ends after the 2010 season and would be about 35.

With only a couple years left, he could be traded, but he would be a 10/5 guy, which would complicate it.

oops
never really got to my point:

Point is:  if Cabrera is going to command 150M+ on the market, with Rolen's contract soon to expire, they could potentially afford to bid on him, but probably only if they could unload Rolen.

They obviously don't have the means/desire to go spending like the Cubs did this last off-season or the Yankees do every off-season, but while this would be a huge longshot, signing Miggy in a few years isn't completely 100% impossible.

if there is a chance
i think walt has to look into it...even if he gives up a whole hell of a lot, b/c you are getting a whole hell of a lot in return.  I think Rasmus, Garcia, Anderson, and Reyes would be a strong starting point.  Why would they want Rolen if paying miggy $10 mill a year would be too much???  I dont think we can give up Duncan, unless Hermedia has fallen out of their grace and they want to throw him in the trade.  Either way, if he wants to play here (and the possibility of Pujols then Miggy in the lineup for years to come) walt at least has to ask and make a push for him....right?

not gonna do it
I don't think the cards can afford to destroy there farm system by trading everyone with big upside. The team just can't afford it money wise. In order to have approx 30 million in 2 players u have to have some cheap right off the farm players. The thing to do is wait in till 2009 when he is a free agent, edmonds will be gone and that's 10 mil right there, surely the can scrape up 5 or so more if he will sign for a discount to play with AP because the cards will not pay anyone more money than albert.

I would be more than happy
to ship off my favorite cardinal (scotty)for miggy.I'd say goodbye to reyes too.  Maybe even rasmus with the ridiculously deep at center field free agent market coming up.
BLaw.

why not let walt earn his money
if miggy wants to come to st.louis and is a little bit flexible walt can work the money to make it work. all they would have to do is back load the contract.

walt is a very good gm and if they want a guy they can make it work.

edmonds money comes off after 08 and i say keep rolen because miggy can play anywhere

2009/2010

eck/miles ss
ak     2b
pujols 1b
miggy rf
duncan lf
rolen 3b
molina c
skip/rasmus  cf

just some guesses but u can get miggy and not trade rolen

THAT COULD BE SICK!!!

"Could" being the key word there!

Could Miguel play short?

Could we get him?

I don't know! I'd like to see it though! Ro, Al, and the MC rounding out an infield!!! SWEET!
