Old Wounds
Short diary today on an old and dear friend of ours. See if you can guess the friend.
Allbeit 50 abs into a long season, assuming 500 ABs his projected 2007 line is as follows:
OPS - 1.112
SB - 40
HR - 30
Last year his similar numbers for the full season were...
OPS - 942
SB - 37
HR - 33
By now I bet you have all guessed it, but I am really pulling for this guy even though he no longer wears the birds on the bat!
Who is this mystery man???
Terry Evans

Weaver got us the World Series though....
Still, if he turns into an all-star at some point, I think it was a fair trade. We traded a fringy player for a starter who was "washed up." It netted us the first ring in twenty-four years.
I'm with you, cheer your heart for the guy because its a nice story. No bitterness on my part.
Agreed
The ironic thing is that the Angels just signed Mathews Jr. which effectively blocks Evans, but if he has similar numbers in AAA (as he did last year), he will become hard to ignore....
By the way
Terry Evans Jr.
Derrick Goold (I think) threw out the name Joe Mather as this year's potential Terry Evans-style late blooming power OF.
Projecting his current rates (after 40-AB, take with a shovelful of salt) out to 500 plate appearances:
OPS: 1.125
HR: 44
2B: 44
K/BB: 44/56
He hasn't stolen a base yet, but he swiped nine last season.
Scratch That
He's off to a real solid start, eh?
Mather...
If he could put up Terry Evans power numbers as a 6' 5" shortstop that would be pretty exciting, maybe push Brendan Ryan a bit by the end of the year.
I think Rasmus will come around but am a little worried about our fringe guys like Stavinoha, Greene, Jones, etc.
By the way, if Mather is a SS in AA where is T. Greene playing? Have we moved him to 3B already?
That's a mistake
Too bad he doesn't switch-hit!
