kinney out for the season

so, kinney is out for the season as the p.d. reported:
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/8C13047E2247C5CF86257298006F65BF ?OpenDocument

what will the bullpen look like now?
to me, kinney was the primary candidate to land the setup role ahead of izzy. now what?
any thoughts?

It is a big setback, but....
I think Jimenez is proving his worth. Saved the game today, and TLR keeps talking about him. I doubt this makes the Cards rethink trading for anybody, but then again with Walt you never know.
Opening Night 2007, here I come!

big opportunity
for kelvin jimenez, it seems to me. the guy has turned heads in training camp, and the 8th-inning slot will probably end up a work in progress --- springer, brad thompson, flores, ty johnson, + hancock may all see some duty there. jimenez apparently has been making hitters look stooopid; maybe he'll end up being this year's kinney.

I like Kinney, but
The Cardinals seem to be pretty good at finding guys to fill this role.  Calero, Al Reyes, Kinney.  I don't know who said it but, the bulpen you start the season with is not the bulpen you end the season with.  With the exception of 2003, Duncan and Larussa do a pretty good job of sorting it out.

How 'bout adding a poll?
I could see any of Jimenez, Thompson, Falkenborg, or Cavazos earning a spot in the bullpen this spring.

Keeping an eye on Hawk and Keisler, too.

If I had to pick, I'd guess that Thompson takes Kinney's roster spot and Tony'd mix and match until someone emerges.

Early returns are surprising
Looper's out in front as of now.

I voted Hancock.

Not a Big Loss
I honestly believe this is not that big of a loss. Kinney was never proven as a reliable reliever. He just got hot at the end of Septemeber and that carried through the post season.

Faulkenburg,Jimenez, and Keisler can fill his position easily. Also don't forget about Rincon. If healthy he could finally fullfil that contract he has.

I agree
I thought Kinney was the least likely to reprise his great late season of any of the bullpen guys. It's not like we don't have a dozen or so guys vying for that spot already, and doing a good job of it.

i just feel sorry for the guy...
... a few years ago he was playing for the Grizzlies. he finally scratches and claws his way onto the big league roster and gets injured. tough break.

Me, too
I'll be pulling for him to make a full recovery and contribute at the MLB level again.

Seriously, though. Tragically glorious ride the man took.

reminds me of when Al Reyes blew his
elbow in the last(?) game before the playoffs in 2004.  I was pissed -- I can only imagine how disappointed he was.  Poor guy is stuck on the Devil Rays right now.

It was the last game of 2005
I think, pretty sure it was the last game, but it was '05.

This injury doesn't just blow his baseball season
Josh Kinney is also an avid bow hunter.  I bet he's almost as pissed that he won't be able to pull back a bow as he is that he can't pitch this year.  Although, maybe he'll get lucky and the doc will make it part of his rehab plan.

I hear ya
I figured he and Kip would go on hunts together. Maybe Kip and Cal Eldred can plan some trips in camp.

He can now use a crossbow
Since he is considered disabled in his arm for now. So all is well in Kinney's bow hunting adventures.

pfft
where's the honor in that?
On with the youth movement!
