did this move shock anyone? it was down to either him or hancock and i think most people would agree with me when i say i'd rather have hancock on the team. any thoughts?

this is kind of surprising,
but I am also not completely surprised. I know that the salary was a big issue, but they should have just traded him. Pair him up with sillman or another semi-prospect and ship them out. I heard that they didn't trade him because there was nobody who wanted him, but trading him for a next to nothing minor league player has to be better than releasing him, right?
the cubs spent HOW much to be able to lose again?

I agree
I wasn't surprised by this move, but I was perplexed. I figured with all the teams in the market for a lefty, why not test the water and see what they'd offer. Maybe we wouldn't get much in return, but it's better than sitting on pins and needles to see if you're going to have to pay a guy $1.45 million to play for someone else.
