Opening Day Traditions

Well opening day is just hours away now. To me its always been kind of a holiday. For the last couple of years I've done the same things. I get all decked out in my cardinals gear, go get some hot dogs and Budweiser (whats more traditional than that?) and watch the games. Unfortunately, This year I have to work. So this left me curious. What do you guys usually do? Sit around with your buddies and grill? Head out to a sports bar? Are you one of the lucky ones who goes to the ball park every year??

it's a long day
me and my buddies have done the same thing since we all met in college.  We start the morning out early with some kegs and eggs, then we pop in the movie "field of dreams" just to remind us of why we love this game.  After all that emotional stuff and a few beers in us we watch "major league", after that we get one of our girlfreinds to drop us off at paddy o's right outside the stadium where we continue to talk about the game, line ups, and so forth.  all in all a pretty productive day by our standards........Go Cards!

I'm one of the lucky ones
who gets to go every year. I have season tickets a bunch of rows up from the cards bullpen. The last few years I actually go to the game with my wife. She's a pretty damn cool chick and we go downtown all day and drink at Kilroy's with my "downtown girlfriend" Annie the bartender. (coolest and prettiest bartender around IMO)
It's always been a holiday for me too. I have to work 90 hour weeks during xmas time, so I really don't care for that holiday. But anyway, we're staying at the Hilton across from the ballpark this year all weekend. It's pretty much my favorite day of the year. I decided to really dork it up this year to celebrate the championship and bought an all red polyester suit and my wife put about 3 dozen  different cardinal pins that I've collected, on the lapels. Keep a look out for me. I'll be the guy in red. HAHA

Getting ready already
Unfortunately one of my best friends is a huge Cubs fan. So opening Sunday we start about 10am, myself drinking Busch and he drinking Old Style. We watch "field of Dreams", then "Major League", and then finally the best baseball movie of all time "Bull Durham". By that time, we are ready for the season to start. Then Monday we get to the Sports Bar at 11 am and stay til the last game is over.

2 years ago it was even crazier when the Illini were playing in the National Championship. That was one of the best sport days in my life, Opening day and an Illinois National Championship game. Too bad the Illini shot like 12% for the game.
