What's Mulder's Estimated Return Date?

According to Dayn Perry's Hope and Faith piece posted at Baseball Prospectus: "Barring the unexpected, Mark Mulder should be back in action by mid-May, but that’s little consolation in the here and now." Since when is Mark Mulder set for a Mid May return? Is that right? Has anyone else heard this? I had thought that if everything broke right Mulder might make a return in mid July. Mid May is a whole different story. Anyone know anything? Cheers!

I heard
I heard him say anywhere from late may to mid july in a radio interview a couple of weeks back. I don't think Mark knows, let alone Baseball Prospectus. I say don't rush him back. Well, I mean I hope we're in position mid season where we don't need to rush it. But judging from the article here a few months back comparing returns from this procedure, the more time the better in my opinion.

that perry article
didn't strike me as a particularly good one. not a lot of insight; felt kind of warmed-over.

exactly.
The radio bit was even worse. Don't get me wrong, Will Carroll and Dayn Perry have put out some quality work, but the radio discussion was worthless. Especially for a highly educated and dedicated niche audience like BP radio. The show was more like something that a general audience would be able to swallow. Perhaps they're trying to get themselves a big money deal and they're going for the big audience. If that's the case, they should work on getting their audio levels evened out....  Sheesh, I must be crabby. Ha!

So...Mulder in mid May is pretty unrealistic?

I wouldn't count on Mulder at all
no guarantees he's gonna have good velocity or command when he comes back.  If he contributes this year, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Honestly,
I'll be thrilled if he comes back next year in some semblance of his old self. Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic, but I'm not putting any hope at all in him this year. It makes me feel too much like a <cough> Cub fan <cough>. My hope is that Wainer, Reyes, and Wells are good enough that Mulder won't matter this year (ah, now I'm an optimist). I dunno. I do know I'll personally be happier if I don't put any eggs in the Mulder basket for 07. Then if I'm wrong--WOO HOO!!

August
I think it will be August at the earliest.  This is an injury that players usually don't back quickly from.  It seems the faster someone tries to comeback, the worse the results are in the end.

Return???
You mean a return to California to live out the rest of his life at Mansion West?  He already has.

Unless...someone wraps his arm in a Johnny Bench Batter Up array of gigantic rubber bands that allows him to "fling" his fastball back up to the plate at his old speed of 94-95.

Otherwise, it's "Hello, aren't you this month's Playmate?"
